All comps 17"+ are now two piece wheels, so they gained some weight.

 

Beyond that sometimes tooling differences, meaning tools are optimized for a certain size, can result in wheels in smaller sizes being heavier, i've only seen that in widths though not diameters.

For instance the 18x8.5 RP03 is heavier then the 18x9.5 RP03 according to Enkei Direct, also weird the weights they have on their US website don't match up to what they wont in the resalers guide.

 

For those looking for another Rota option you might want to take a look at the Rota P45. It comes in a lot of color choices and has a "mazdaspeed" appearance. According the the Subydude.com site it should only weigh about 20lbs.....

These (SSR GT7 with Nittos) look like they may be a good option for someone looking for wheels and tires. Offset is listed as 51mm and no weight listed.

subies have a center bore of 56mm. our center bore is 67mm.

ssr does make a gt7 with our center bore, but its 18x8.5.

I'm not sure if anybody except Kosei can answer this questions, but they make a 18x8 K1-TS that ranges from 16.5 lbs ($300/ea) to 17.2 lbs ($259/ea) for the Nissan Altima and other cars that have the same fitment.

The problems are that the hub bore is about 1mm too small in diameter and the offset is 40mm. So one would have to remove around 4mm of material from the hub. People have done this with the 14x6 K1-TS to make them ES legal for the first gen Miatas. I'm sure Kosei designed this wheel with a decent factor of safety, but does 4mm seem like a lot of material to take off.

Any machine shop (or anybody with a mill or lathe) could machine the hub and bore pretty easily.

 

I had a machine shop do my K1TS wheels for my MiataR.
I think I only had to take off 1mm though.
The shop owner had to come out and look at the job but did it after I said my car is only 2225lbs and the wheels were for racing. He looked pretty closely at how much material was there(it was a lot) before agreeing to do it.
Many machine shops won't do wheels due to liability.

It can be done on a mill with dial indicator and a boring bar or rotary table. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Regarding wheels, I'd be leery taking 4mm of material off of the hub. I think the best "off the shelf" solution for B Stock right now is the Supperleggeras, even if they are a little heavier.

 

Like I said, Kosei engineers are probably the only people that could know if it would be possible to take that much material off of the hub.

Yeah, the ultraleggeras are definitely at the top of the list. If Isley was willing to sell his now, I'd pick them up.

 

I just weighed my new street wheels, Rota P45 18X8 +48, 21 lbs w center cap. On the same scale my 18X8 OZ, which Tirerack lists at 18.4 lbs, came up 18.5 lbs w center cap so I think it is fairly accurate.

Actually, I'd be interested to see what the market will bear...might give me the inspiration to have a bunch of 16 lbs Kodiaks built up, to sell.

 

imho if you can wait long enough you might find some sucker that will pay retail for them. I think they would sell easy at $1500.00.
