Most people also bring a floor jack, tools, and other stuff one might use at the track. I am going to Pocono next week for a 3-day HPDE, I think I will weigh everything I bring and post it.

Estimating...

205 lbs driver
175 lbs codriver
200 lbs wheels/tires
40 lbs jack
75 lbs assorted tools
50 lbs clothing and baggage
10 lbs 2 helmets and bags
50 lbs other crap in car
------
805 lbs

GVWR for the RX-8 is about 3,800 lbs IIRC. If the car weighs 2900ish in race trim (less than full tank, lightweight wheels, etc) in race trim, that starts getting pretty close.

Baggy, do you care to be more specific as to who all has blown out their rear shocks?

Real dumb question here: (but I'm a bit curious)

- Having the seats removed won't bump you out of stock class will it????

Yes, it definitely will.

I think you'll end up in SM or Prepared

when the rear shocks start clunking you'll know ... I was one of them, had to almost pay as much as new to rebuild my rear stock class DAs over this past winter because they were in such bad shape internally, diagnosis was due to excessive bottoming and the only time that ever occured was driving it loaded up to the events, they aren't designed for that ... IMO losing sucks more than a race shock not being able to serve double duty as a truck shock

So here is a thought for the overloaded car on the way to the event crowd. Jack up the car and put a set of these in the springs: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/3536...g-Rubbers.html

Then when you get to the event and are changing tires just pull them out.

Well I am packed and it will be just around 300 lbs of stuff I wouldn't have in my 8 on a normal day.
180 lbs of mounted tires
70 lbs of tools & spare parts.
the rest clothes etc. for 3 days, laptop, oil & premix,
folding chair, pop tent, gas can, quick fill funnel,
small air compressor.

I am the only driver plus I lower the weight a bit by taking out ALL the seats and only using two lightweight Kirkey seats.

I don't think 300 lbs in the rear is too bad, but I am am only doing a HPDE. I assume if this was a race preped 8 a trailer would be the way to go.

operator error excluded during the second time ever loading it, no issues since and since you ask, it looks just like new

edit: guess I should have said it's better than the floor of your trunk

I have to wonder why you would carry an econ spare when you have four extra full size tires with you.

So buy Koni's for street driving and have them blown up!

Seems like something is wrong here.

I drive my race tires on the street and have even been in the rain on them. I would rather drive on a race tire than an econ spare every time.

I'm still not sure how 300 pounds on the rear can blow out a shock. The average guy is 150 lbs give or take, so basically if you had to drive somewhere and took 3 friends that would blow out the shocks too?

when you load up the trunk it has more leverage on squatting the rear, plus you lose ride height with low/zero gas Koni shocks (which the warning was specifically stated for) over the OE monotubes, plus you forgot the weight of a driver and possibly a passenger too, plus most people over tighten the upper rear shock mounts which only exacerbates the problem ... of course I've been known for bringing the kitchen sink to events ...
