I'm running Hawk HPS right now. They warm up faster than the HP+ and bite a tad better than the OEM pads. Plus they don't squeal on the street. Overall a decent pad but nothing extraordinary.

i'm pretty happy with the OE pads so far. i had HPSs on my Protege and on my Miata, and really liked them. i thought about the HPS pads for the RX8, but didn't think they were worth the substantial price difference over a set of OE pads from Mazda Motorsports.

I hated giving up the first corner on HP+ unless you can drag the brakes all the way to the start line. They require some heat to work well.
OEM pads are fine for most people. I use Carbotechs on my STX car. Even the XP10s I run up front bite very well when cold, and they're great track pads as well. One caveat - I wouldn't use them on the street. Way too abrasive on the rotors for street use, noisy, etc. I swap pads when I change wheels at events.
