Sigh. In STX, I was in first after Sat AM, second after Sat pm, and third after Sundays runs. This sequence was pretty much determined by when the mistakes were made.

Karl was driving his WRX, and I let Dan Bullis co-drive my car. Dan is a very good driver from the Portland area who is a well regarded driving instructor at Portland International Raceway. He's better known in track circles, but likes the cones too. He has the ability to jump in anybody's car and be fast. At least that's what I tell myself.

Truth is I drove poorly on Sunday, while my competitors got their bad runs over with on Saturday. I coned or red-lit 3 of my 4 runs Sunday. I was the last driver in the group, and I knew I had some time to make up and I wasn't at risk of loosing a trophy, so I got a bit aggressive. Too aggressive, it turns out. One of my RL runs would have halved the gap between Dan and I, and I take a small amount of solace in that. But I do admit it would have been tough to catch him, even if I had driven well.

So in STX, it was Karl in 1st in the WRX, Dan in second in my car, and me in third.

It was great to see Brian Coulson and Debbie again. Always nice to see the regulars! Brian came in second in CS, loosing to Heitkotter, and Debbie took 5th.

By the way, the new LED lights are a little different from a timing standpoint than the old. They come on instantly, while the older lamps took a small amount of time to ramp up. This makes it easy to red-light with the new lights if you rely on your old instincts. Ultimately, I think it is an improvement, as the LEDs are easier to see and the instant-on is, arguably, more precise, but you have to retrain your reactions a bit. And before anybody says it, I'm not blaming the lights for my RLs on Sunday. I was a bit amped up and jumpy. Never a good thing at a tree.

Looking forward to the NT.

Nice write-up George. Sorry to hear about your bad luck on Sunday, but seems like you still came away with a very solid finish. Best of luck at the NT.

Btw, congrats to Bryan and Brian on finishing 1-2 in CS.

^Thanks. I finally got the car handling the way I want it with the wing & rear 2.5" springs installed. This week, I'm getting another dyno tune after replacing the front 02 sensor to see if I can get the mid-range torque back - it's down about 5% compared to last year.

Some wing pics:

You never did say which ignition coils you used.

I'm not sure why you think an O2 sensor is the problem since it's only used in closed loop i.e. part throttle operation. It doesn't have to be connected for proper WOT use such as racing.

Ah yes, forgot about the open/closed loop issue. Thanks for that.

I went with stock coils. Typical crap - coils give out right before an event so I can't wait for a BHR setup.

I've never had any issue with OE coils and that's what I use

Maybe you'll want to do a before/after check between the two ....

Actually, I never received the BHR setup. Once I learned how long it would take, Charles was very good about canceling the order and refunding my money.

Didn't get much of STX, or, obviously, the other CS cars. I did see the black STX RX-8 take a wild ride through the left-side finish!
