AutoX alignment

Does anybody have any alignment recommendation for autocross.

B-Nez 06-30-2004 10:02 PM

Try these threads:

I found them by using the following search terms:
alignment autocross

The search button is one of the coolest features of the forum.

When it provides usable results. Only one of the three threads you linked actually had anything to say about alignment settings for autocross use and it was nearly a year old...which was a time when the first people were just getting their cars and starting the process of finding settings that worked best. Things have developed since then.

FWIW, artflrs my specs (with Koni DAs):

Front Camber: -1.4 (I'd like more, but that's all I could get)
Caster: 6.7
Front Toe: 0
Rear Camber: -1.5
Rear Toe In: 0.04

i plan on getting my alignment done next week.
So, thanks for all the help.

clyde, I'd disagree. The other posts, while they may not discuss actual numbers, still had relevant things to say about alignment settings for autocross.

A more general search on "alignment" would probably turn up additional threads with more hard numbers. Seach is still your friend. :)

It has been a year but I'm still a long way from sorting out my alignment...

-1.5 Camber (Front)
0 Toe
5.7 Caster

-1.0 Camber (Rear)
.12 Total Toe-in (Stock is .08)

Make sure it is done with driver in the car.

With stock shocks, this my alignment:

Front camber -1.4 (as much as I could get)
Caster 6.6
Front toe 0
Rear camber -1.5
Rear toe in 0.03

OK, I'm really a noob to all this, can I do an alignment myself, or do I need a reliable shop to do it?

AlexCisneros 07-06-2004 09:48 PM

is the car stock?

any sway bars?

What tires are you running?

Generic alignments aren't always a good thing.

I agree...I recall seeing a few threads discussing alignments with more useful info than two of those three threads (but, of course, I'm too lazy to search for them myself). :D

How accurate do you want it to be? Small changes can make a big difference.

Everything is very easy to adjust compared to most cars, but if you don't know what you're doing you'll probably wind up worse than where you started.

Having it done at a good shop is worth the money, IMO. For most people, it doesn't become worthwhile to DIY until 1) you really, really know how all of the settings affect the car, 2) need to get it dialed in just so and 3) are willing to risk screwing it up in the learning process.

AlexCisneros 07-07-2004 01:49 PM

that and they aren't cheap either...

My last one cost $95 and it still needs tweaking

Mazdaspeedgirl 07-11-2004 12:51 PM

Mine are free.

But we are taking the 8 on a 3000 mile trip next week and I won't be able to try anything until after her first autoX. Don't really want that annoying uneven treadwear on her only set of shoes. ;) Did that in the miata once...ruined a good set of Toyos. :o

Just had my alignment done and the maximum camber allowable on the left-front was only 0.6 degrees. Is there any way to get more camber without aftermarket products.

AlexCisneros 07-11-2004 08:03 PM

what size wheel and tire are you using and with what offset? Were you in the car?

artflrs 07-11-2004 08:14 PM

stock wheels and tires. I wasn't in the car, was just trying to max out the camber upfront.

My front left camber was limited to about 1.2 degrees. We could get 1.8 out of the right front.

This was me out of the car. After I got in the car, the left camber stayed the same, but the right camber actually went up.

This was with 245/45R17 Falkens all around.
