Autocross Drinkage
I know you can bring a cooler with food and drinks and stuff, but what is the deal with alcohol. Can you bring it on the site? Obviously not for drivers, but for spectators. Do people drink at these things?

There *are* some locations that allow alcohol only *after* all the runs have been completed. However, NEVER while an event is going on, spectators and competitors both.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to make everyone wait until after or wait for at-the-bar.

so they can hitch rides with the drivers...

It's similar with all sports, though, isn't it? Is there any sport that is more fun to watch than participate in? At least there's no admission charge for spectators at an autocross.

I think topless mud wrestling is more fun to watch than participate in... but on the scale of boring sports to watch, autorcossing is down near the bottom next to soccer, curling, and baseball (further down would be nascar).
Thats just for me. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who love to watch curling.

It can be fun to watch at a national event with people you know that are in close competition, i.e. BSL last weekend at Atwater... but yeah, other than that pretty boring. It doesn't help that you can't really see most of the course close up. Maybe they need cameras and big screens at the events.

I was in no way encouraging drinking at autocross events...they have enough liability already. The inadvisability of drinking at an autocross was actually meant to be part of my attempt at a sarcastic comment (apparently not very funny comment).
I think autocross can be fun to watch if you have somebody doing it that you care about or just admire. Sorta like watching skiing or other time trial type of events. It would be even cooler if they had better scoreboards with the "time to beat" listed on the top and splits with comparisons to the time to beat. But, then again, there is no budget for that. Maybe we could take up a collection and have Daktronics put together a scoreboard for the National Tour and Nationals.
A few fist fights and trash talking and general poor behavior might increase the watchability as well. Also, inadvisable.

The scoreboard idea actually sounds really good. I think if they can get someone to finance that out for them over the course of a few years... it should be easily affordable at the national level.
The autocross associations that do allow ride alongs, definetely do make it a lot funner for friends that are coming. I don't mind taking friends along with me... as long as they are females under 110lbs.
