anyone in the OC, CA area going to any autocross events?

i was reading this thread ( http://honda-tech.com/zerothread/1652960 ) from honda-tech.com and got me thinking that i want to attend autocross events as well.
so as the title states if you attended or will attend an autocross event near OC, CA area- let me know.
i'd like to give my car a try, but kinda scared to go alone....(yes i admit it...darn..it)
i tried looking up couple of websites and stuff....can't really understand what the heck all the abbreviations stand for...
and the points...
and other things....

anyways, please do let me know. thanks.

There are 2 places to do autocross in SoCal. CalClub, which puts on events at California Speedway in Fontana has a website at http://www.solo2.com. There is an event this Sunday if you would like to attend.

Then there is the San Diego region down here, and we do our events at Qualcomm stadium. http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/

The national champ also lives in the OC and runs at both regions. There will be a number of RX-8 drivers at the Sunday CalClub event, including myself. All of us would be happy to help you with registration, driving tips, etc.

Almost forgot, we have a thread in the West forum where we discuss the local autox events: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...&page=13&pp=40

THANKS~!
although sad to say, i can't make any of the races on sundays....oh well...

i did print out the cscc solo2 points card application. do i go ahead and fill it out and send it in? and after that just simply attend the events?
one q- for points card/card number desired, how many digits does this number have to be?

or maybe things are done a bit differently down in SD...anyways, i'll let you know if i do attend.

That's gonna make it tough to do any of the official events, but you can still do practices which are mostly on Saturday.

Yeah, you can send it in. You don't actually need a points car to run, it just gives you a permanent number and let's you pre-register for events. The numbers can be 1 to 3 digits, but you should check the solo2.com website for available numbers.

San Diego works basically the same. Easiest way to get started is just to show up early (7:30ish) on an event day and talk to the registration people. They'll let you know what you need to do.

this is a off questiong from topic...but

how much do the helmets cost? that seems to be the most costly "investment" to run in the races, since i'll be running my car as it is. would most motorcycle helmets work?
any advice on helmet selection?
thanks again for the info.
i'd be happy with just trying out the saturday practice events.

You will need a Snell rated helmet. For autox, M rated (motorcycle) helmets are acceptable, but if you ever want to do track days you should look at an SA rated helmet.

Motorcycle helmets can be had in the $100 range, while SA helmets are more like $200+. I'm using an M-rated one since I mostly do autox and some go-karting.

FYI, you generally have to pre-register for practice events to get in... so keep an eye on the www.solo2.com site and/or check out the new autox thread in the West forum.

You need to get a different job, if it is keeping you busy on Sundays. We have a good size group now at the California Speedway, so come on out and check things out. We run in BSP.

You can always get a loaner helmet at the event, so no need to invest in anything off the bat.

With your number, pick something with three digits.

This will allow you greater access to Saturday practice events. For Cal Club, you'll need to pick a club to join....try and get one that is free and doesn't require you to meet during the year. Basically, the club is where your points go...without a number and a team, you can't keep track of your finishes and accumulated points.
