Another towing question

I rolled the RX8 up on the trailer for the first time tonight. In the back, I can see where it will be pretty straightforward to hook the ratcheting tie downs into the rear subframe (in the oval "eye" in the stamping) and criss cross back to the traier tie downs.

But, I can't figure out where to easily tie down the front end. I'm thinking either using a set of axle straps and going around/through the lower a-arm, which wouldn't be my first choice, as I don't want to pull against the bushings and eccentrics at all. The other choice is use some t-hooks or j-hooks on the factory frame rail spots, but I gave my t-hooks away with the Z06.

So, where exactly do you guys tie down the front end?

Thanks

I did order them. Now, let's hope that they fit in the frame opening. I pulled the rubber plugs and eyeballed it, I think it will be just fine. Hope they're here by next Thursday, I have a little bit of a tow that day...

If I don't have the t-hooks, where would you suggest wrapping an axle strap or hooking the tie down?

Thanks

you can always wrap them through the front wheels, but that would be an absolute last resort for me

Before I did that, I'd wrap them around and through the LCA, close to the rear bushing. At least then you're not pulling on the wheel and also can get right next to the subframe, which would reduce the affect of the car moving up and down on the springs....I think. Hey, I'm no engineer and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

assuming they will clear the plastic underbody that would be ok

my trailer is on the way, I'm in the same boat, between getting it and the car configured in time for the SD weekend I'll probably be off the deep end (deeper than usual )

Rather than trying to wrap the tie down strap, hook and all, around stuff, a set of these can be a good thing to have. I use them when transporting motorcycles, large items (like the Tiger on it's rotisserie) and other things that might have good points to pull on with limited access.

I don't put the hook there. I just wrap the strap all the way around them.

That's how I tied my 8 down...used the g-force combo ratchet/axle straps to go through the middle of the LCA as far inboard as possible...then, when you cross the straps, you'll hardly be pulling on A-arm at all.

Doesn't the car come with a set of eyebolts that screw into the front of the car specifically for towing? Not sure if that's an option or not...but since no one mentioned it I thought I would.

Not an option. That's a short term emergency solution, not a long term solution
