Amsoil SVG 75-90 in tranny .... any opinions??

Hi all.

I did search and found no real opinions on Amsoil gear lube.

I'm choosing the severe gear 75-90 synthetic. for both the tranny & diff.

Just wondering if thats a good choice or if I should be looking elsewhere.

Thanks in advance.

For the tranny......http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/mtg.aspx
For the diffy......http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/svt.aspx

Don't use SVT in the tranny. Use the mtg.

These are arguably the best choices, not merely good. Some here like Redline. I've heard it shears down pretty quickly though. I have no experience with it personally.

My experience tells me Amsoil products are top shelf. Other's may have a different experience.

I use the lubricants in the links provided and so far, so good.

Big Thanks for the reply!!

OK I can agree that the MTG looks a step above the SVG - thats a go.....

But for the Diff: Why 75-110 weight insted of 75-90. I Emailed amsoil themselves and they said 75-90 for both. Who's right???

OK great ... 75-90 for the rear it is (also because the local shop that sells Amsoil doesn't stock 75-110).

But Do I want the MTG product in BOTH tranny & Diff..... Or do I want the MTG for the Tranny ,,, then the SVG in the rear?????? I'm a bit confused as to what the differance is. ( between MTG and SVG ) Thanks agian - Chris

MTG for the manual trans
SVG/SVT for the differential

the SVG/SVT has friction modifiers for the limited slip differential that will be too slippery for the trans synchros, that's why they have a specific manual trans gear oil

From the Amsoil site on the SVT.

"AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® (75W-110) provides superior performance and replaces competitors’ 75W-110, 75W- 90 and 80W-90 gear oils. It delivers better viscosity protection than SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 and better fuel efficiency than SEVERE GEAR 75W-140."

I was going to use the SVG...one very knowledgable Amsoil guy on BITOG told me to use the SVT instead.

I'm sure you wouldn't go wrong with either, but you may prefer to listen to one of these RX8 experts. I'm not one of them.

Very good info here.

I even called Amsoil and talked to Allen. He was very helpfull. Very good company... through my research they were quick and responsive .. never seemed annoyed with me even though I knew I was being annoying

digitalsniper's recommendation was spot on. The 110 weight is a bit thicker for added protection .. but possibly a slight loss of efficiency. Since I also commute in the car I'll stick w/ the 75-90.

Thanks again for the help.
