Advice needed: Race-ready spec Miata or new RX-8

Hello folks,

I'm a true newbie having done one two-day performance class at Thunderhill in CA with a Miata group. WOW. Am set to go to Willow Springs in a few weeks. I'm hooked!

But, the experience has spun me sideways on how I'm seeing my pre-order RX-8.

If I purse track events and autocross and MAYBE even move to buying a 15K "ready to race" spec Miata and get my SCCA ticket . . .

So, I'm considering dropping the RX-8 and buying a 90-93 Miata and running the heck out of it until I have the experience and the WILL to have it converted to a REAL Spec Miata class car so I can go through the SCCA course and get my ticket punched to race.

Heck, my Explorer is paid for so I've got wheels . . . Money for a slick NEW sports car, or a genuine classes spec car????????? The piggy bank, vs. the rush of track events . . .

Time will tell if I stick with moving into SCCA stuff. I suppose autocross will be a cheaper start, but . . .

Got input?

Seeing as you already got wheels, I'd say go for the Miata...

You'll probably enjoy it more now that you've got the racing bug.. That's not to say you won't enjoy the 8 too, but I'm sure you'll miss the racing just as much..

aw yeah dude, totally go for the racing... if you got the time, money, and resources to do it (not to mention knowledgible friends) just GO RACING!! :D there's nothing you couldn't have there (probably more) that you'd get from an RX-8... and you'd not have to worry about idiot drivers scratching your baby in the parking lot, you'd be itching to trade paint with fellow competitors

anyhoo, if you're bent on running a rotary (which i can see you're not) you can get an FC and run it (fairly competitively, if you can tune it right) cheaply in a higher spec class... but yeah dude!! go for the Miata!! :D
