highly transitional and bumpy autox situations where the brakes may be carried in deep while turning, which pretty much sums up Nationals based on my past experience, is likely where ABS pays off the most and is the worst situation for non-ABS to deal with. On a smooth trials or track course though, I can see where Dallas is coming from. Even he stated that autox will likely benefit the having ABS the most.
I still haven’t had a chance to try and figure out why the ABS isn’t working on the RX8 I mentioned previously. The previous owner claims the light came on when the Adaptronic Select was piggybacked on the factory pcm for the REW engine install. It normally shouldn’t be a problem. The one thing he did though was tap into one or more of the wheel sensor wires to get a launch control speed signal. So I’m thinking that’s likely the source of the issue. Eventually it will transition to the newer modular stand-alone ecu and then all of that can be fully CAN based. So that may be what ends up resolving it.

Is the S1 RX8 Non DSC ABS standalone? I always thought it needed the ECU...

you won't have an CAN network system without an ECU, but the non-ABS unit doesn't require any dealership programming if that's what is being asked. It's plug-n-play using the same programming address that the system will readily recognize and accept.
the ABS w/DSC units have different addresses depending on transmission specifics; they require programming to be recognized and operate properly
