Wink 55th Macau GP - Windsor Arch Macau Road Sport Challenge

Getting this RX-8 to prepare for the Windsor Arch Macau Road Sport Challenge in Macau this weekend. Not good enough to win anything, but should be a fun Saturday morning drive!

Good luck! Looks nice...what kind of prep has been done to the car? Any interior pics? Engine work?

The car is SFR turbo'ed with Microtech ECU, the interior has been stripped with Mazdaspeed roll cage midified to FIA specification. The engine is pulling 300hp at the driveshaft, which is good for street circuit, unfortunately, there are many more high powered cars in the race, so I just have to treat it as a Saturday morning drive and finish the race. Hee hee....

Nice car! Have you all thought about cutting more weigh out of the car? Maybe cutting away all the interior sheet metal from the front and rear doors? What about removing the heater core and AC? You can get the weight down quite a bit...our cars we race in the Koni Challenge weigh 2650lbs with a full roll cage installed. I 300hp car weighing that weigh would dominate!

Oh yeah I noticed another thing...are you guys attaching your shoulder harness to the rear babyseat anchors? I hope not...they are not rated for an adult and will snap in an accident. You really should look at adding a shoulder bar to the MS roll bar you already have installed.

Take a look at this pic to get an idea of what have done to the interior of the doors.

Yes, less weight would be nice but only had a short amount of time to prepare the car, so we will for sure look at weight saving for next year's race. As for the should bar, we have added that to comply with FIA, the photo attached was before the bar was added.

Ahhhh so want to go this year... damn work. I was there last year with family... I have a Macau friend (wife)... hehe. It was really fun and hot. You have heat issue?? Taken the AC out will help I guess.

I am going to prep a race car privately as a rack only car. I was told you can V mount the radiator... is that right?

Yes, the car handles perfectly at this track. I had heat issues but not the engine, it is gearbox and differential. We are going to try another type of oil to see if it helps. Also, I had a slight problem with the 180km/h speed limiter but worked out the issue after the session, I hope it works for tomorrow qualifer!

Yes, taka... the car has V mounted setup. So, taking out the a/c helps the heat stress???? Tell me more.

I am in the background of KC, so not there most of the time. But wait til the car return to HKG and we can catch up. Rotary in Hong Kong is not a popular car at all, high fuel cost and lack of service garage is a killer.

Good Luck and have fun ;-) speed limit should be easy solution, either remap or get a HKS SLD and you will overcome that..

Afterall, I finished 11th. Sigh, that bloody speed limiter wouldn't go away. Next step is to turn this to a race car and lets go serious!!! Or should I?? Sigh... I don't know...

Good run ;-) 11th out of?

As for the speed limit, I just recently did the remap with Knight Sports, part of the remap program is to remove the speed limiter and it is really that easy.

I thought the HKS SLD works with RX-8? Have you tried that ?

but u're using Motech shouldn't have any 180km limit isn't it ?

I will be in Hong Kong Next month is it possible that I might able to see your lovely car ?

OK guys, thank you very much for all the interest. I have just returned home to settle down from the weekend of racing. Let me answer your questions one by one.

chiketkd: Please take a look at http://www.macau.grandprix.gov.mo/gp...lt.php?lang=en, the organiser put me on Class A against those monster machine, because they read the RX-8 rotary as a 2,616cc engine + a turbocharger they times the capacity by 1.7, so I got placed in Class A, but if you look carefully, there is a RX-7 placed in Class C as 1,300cc with no chargers, which is all nuts in a way. There were 21 cars racing and 6 in Class A.

patrick331: The track is one of its kind, I rate it over the Nurburgring!! It has no run off area, which test your nerve and driving skill, I am sure to be there next year!!

Mazdaspeed 88: 11 out of 21, well no the best result but at least I finished! Haa haa... I promised myself to do much better next year. I had a nightmare with the speed limiter. Thank you for your advice, but with it turbocharged, the Knightsport wouldn't work for me.

Kafka: Yes, I got capped 180km/h on the straight, I should do much better and more TV coverage if I had the top speed, I am sure the RX-8 could beat the NSXs!

nycgps: Yes, I have tried the HKS SLD and surprise surprise, it didn't work. The car is using Microtech ECU but partly still controlled by the factory ECU, as I didn't had the plan to convert the car to a full on race car, so I kept the A/C system etc... therefore I didn't cut the factory ECU entirely. Anyway, due to the classification method, I will have to think twice whether I should use RX-8 as my weapon next year.

haha..the Jun evo is so much faster then all the other cars

I m sure u can knock a few secs off without the speed limiter. the lower part of the track is all high speed corners, i m sure the 8 can easily handle those corners.
