I just got the 2008 Mazda media guide for everything from Mazda NA. It has the specs on the "special" 40th suspension. It gets the urethane foam filled cross members, like the Shinka had, and a set of Bilstein shocks. Also count on the 40th weighing a bit more than the base or sport because of the rest of the option pkg. Love the engine cover on the 40th and kind of like the new wheels, but they look like a pain to clean.

 

shouldnt this be in the general rx8 discussion, i highly doubt anyone buying the 40AE would track it full time lol

 

It could be, but I could care less about that section. I know I was waiting to see the specs on the "revised 40th suspension", so I would have some idea if it would be better than the current car for autox.

There is news of a new 1.6 liter rotary coming out within the next few years, which certainly should make a difference in terms of performance. Several changes to the design are supposed to happen that will improve torque, which should address on of the 8's primary weaknesses in autocross. Article in Motortrend this month.

 

i think those wheels are sick. just tell me they are lighter and have a bigger offset, +45, and their mine!!
