4 Tire R-Compound Tire Test
Some interesting comments in this translated from German Porsche 911 R-Compound tire test.

I read the same shootout from SCCA Forum at http://www.sccaforums.com/forums/42652/ShowPost.aspx. They R-compounds featured in this test seem to be targeting road racing, not autocrossing. Grassroots Motorsports magazine will be coming out with both Max Performance Summer and R-compound test in June/August issue. Keep tuned for the report.
Hope this is not a re-post, but I came across this informative review shoot-out on SCCA-approved "beginner" R-compound tires. The tires are: Toyo RA-1, Kumho V700 Victoracers, and Yokohama A032R. See http://www.mach1review.com/D.O.T.Com...resReview.html.
Keep in mind that these tires are not the fastest picks for National-level competitions. Toyo RA-1 seems to be a very good choice for BS-class autocrossers who need a legal & long-lasting R-compound. You will be 2 second off the pace of Kumho V710, leading R-compound, caveat-emptor.

It is funny to hear you guys talk about the V710 not lasting... I have a set with about 86 runs and 600 freeway miles on them, they still have tread left. While they are not as fast as they were new even after 80 runs they are as fast as Ecsta V700, Toyo or Yok. IF you are looking at R tires that are 2 sec off the V710 you might as well save your money and run street tires.
fyi, while I have not killed off a set on this car yet we did see over 100 runs out of a set of V710s on a Corvette. That is about the same amount of runs we got out of Victoracers on the same car.
Dont waste your money on the slow crap, get the good stuff. Unless you want to buy the slow tires so you have an excuse when you lose. :D

the set we brought to Denver had 70 runs on them, lots of tread left and decent grip, but they just wouldn't hang on in the high G areas
lesson learned
they'll easily last 100+ runs though, just don't expect max grip potential
