2012 Nationals

So far I'm the only 8 in CS, 10 in STX, 4 in STXL and 2 in RTR.

STX's and CS's run Tuesday/Wednesday. Hopefully the timing will work out so I can see you guys run as well.

So anyone else in CS?

My co-driver and I would normally be running CS but we are running other cars this year. I plan to be back in CS next year to reclaim my lower midpack position.

Due to a prior commitment and CS running T/W I will not be running CS but plan to be in something on TH/F. I will be watching you run though.

That is one of the options. The devil is in the details.

Good luck to everyone competing. I think I am going to make my car legal and attend next year, certainly do some of the National tour events.

Anyone know where I can see the results I have a few friends competing and would like to see how they are doing.

Edit:http://sololive.scca.com/
here are the results

Big thanks to TeamRX8 for the co-drive in STX this year. Mark is good people and the ride was greatly appreciated. I also want to congratulate Debbie for her STXL win in his car.

Great to see old RX8 friends and meet new ones, too.

Not sure if he makes it around these parts anymore... But a HUGE congratulations to ex-RX-8 pilot Carter Thompson on winning SSM in the RX-7, crushing the class on the way to his first Solo National Championship. He and his dad are two of the nicest guys out there, and he was long overdue for this.

Also congrats to Debbie on getting another one. STXL was one of the few decent sized ladies classes this year, and she had other past winners to overcome. Nice work. At least someone can figure out how to get speed out of the TRX8 car - maybe you can coach the boys next year. lol

After so many years of going it sure is hard to sit here and watch the results stream in on the computer.

Sharing your sentiments, HUGE congrats to Carter!

You and Jennifer have been an ongoing inspiration, you were one of the first people that encouraged me when I started racing an RX-8 (Atwater NT 2004?). Wish the guys had the setup that Mark made before I ran in the 4th heat on Wednesday, the car was a dream for me to drive on the west course.

Mike, thanks, sure was great to see you this week, congrats on your STX trophy. And congrats to all of our RX-8 community to made the trip, who earned trophies, and who shared the experience.

Tried hard to be in the trophies but fell short. I was one of the unlucky few that had hail and rain for first run on West course.( it dried in less than 5 minutes)...but tanked my third run on west all on my own.

Even if they move the MSR and Solstice next year the 370s are a force to deal with...nice Job by Daniel McCelvey

I'll also jump on the congratulatory bandwagon...it is wonderful to see Carter earn his way overdue jacket and, I agree, the Thompsons are right up their in the nicest people I know in Solo category

I also have to agree...Debbie did a much better job driving the Team-mobile than I did...the car was certainly good enough to be top RX8, I just couldn't get it done, clean, day two.

'What a crazy couple of days at Nationals. We changed the car setup before we went thinking that there would be better grip out there then what we get at home, but found out that there wasn't. We spent time at the practice course trying to sort it out before the Pro.We were on site until midnight changing the car. My first set of runs of the Pro, the car was loose on throttle and a little pushy mid-corner. I didn't drive that goodbecause of it. When Jeff was ready to take his runs I told him what to expect and make the best of it, Luckly he did. We tried different things for the next two sets of runs, and I think it just got worse every time, the car was Always sideways and hard to drive. We both stood on the first set of runs for the whole event, Jeff's times were just good enough for him to lead all three groups and Win the Championship Dave had some good times on Sunday and almost took Jeff out Only a .005 Win for Jeff That turned out to be $1,000 from Mazdaspeed.

We then spent Monday on the practice course 4 sesions to try to figure out what was the best setup and what tires to run, Dunlop or Kooks. We finally got the car where it felt good, and Jeff put down a 30.9 on the practice course.

Come Tuesday morning, we are ready for Nationals to start. I take my first run and the car was Pushy, something I didn't feel this whole trip so I knew that would be easy to fix. Unfortunately when it pushed in the back turn it sent me into a cone. I came in, we maded a change and Jeff goes out for his first run, and the car feels great but he got a cone also. I was happy to hear how good it felt, and was ready to drive it. I put down a decent time too keep it clean and so does Jeff. My third run I decide to try and flat foot one section and it doesn't work out, the car almost comes to a stop because of it and I slow down 2 tenths. Jeff goes out for his third run and layed down a smoking time, but just clipped a cone.

Wednesday I went out to try and get a clean/ fast first run, I got the fast part but not the clean part I hit the last cone in the slolum . Jeff got a clean/fast first run 61.5. My second run I slowed down 2 tenths, but got a clean run in the books. Jeff had a fast time on his second run, but again hit a cone in the slolum. We both went out on our third runs to try to lay something down and tried too hard.

Jeff ended up moving up to 6th place, and moved up to 9th place. This was my first Nationals trophy, and was satisfied with that. Jeff was the fastest Rx8 on day two and was third fastest, I guess all the hard work we did changing the car payed off in the end.

I want to thank Jeff for the ride, and it was nice meeting/ running against everyone in STX.

I ran a 30.9 there too and Mike ran a 31.0, but like Mike told me then; nobody gets a National Championship on the practice course
