2010 Texas National Tour
I only see two RX-8s registered; 1 in CS & 1 in STX (2 drivers).
I'm hoping the courses will be a little more open than the Dixie ones...
I'll be there in a GS Genesis Coupe wishing I was in something that handles better.
And it would be nice if I could convince the car owner to put the carpet back in
the trunk....
Hope to see some of you there!

Yep, I've got a half second lead going into day 2. Hiromoto is third in my car, about 8 tenths out of second. Here's hoping he can move up tomorrow.
The course really played to the RX-8's strengths today - lots of high speed slaloms and offsets, not a lot of slow corners to dig out of. Tomorrow's course looks similar, so we've got confidence that we can make it work and bring the car home 1-2, or at least both of us in the trophies. Can't say enough good things about the car today - it really drove itself. Wish me luck on Day 2!

Congratz Iain and good luck tomorrow.
I just watched Jay's video in his S2000 and wow that looks like a fun course. I'm surprised that only 200 people showed up with such a huge lot like that. Had over 300 at Dixie and it was not nearly as open or fast of a course as this.

Final results: http://www.scca.com/documents/resultfiles/results7.pdf
Peebles and Hiromoto went 2-3 in STX, Jones was 2nd in GS (in a borrowed Genesis coupe), Austin was 2nd in SSM (in a borrowed S2000).
P.S. PAX standings are up as well: http://sccaforums.com/forums/storage...-RTP.Final.pdf

Kudos to Texas Region for running an excellent event! Big thanks to Mark Berry and everyone else who helped clean the surface at Mineral Wells – in twelve years of autocrossing, that was THE best I have ever seen that surface. It was absolutely gravel free all weekend, and a real treat to drive on. Big thanks as well to Greg Piper for designing a pair of awesome courses – those were some of the longest and best flowing courses I’ve ever run at a National event, and they were a definite treat to drive this weekend. Hopefully my co-driver will have some video edited soon.
STX was a lot of fun, and very competitive all weekend. We had six different types of cars (E30 M3, E36, WRX, VW R32, Celica All-Trac, RX-8 ) on five different brands of tires in class. After we scrambled to fix the front sway bar with duct tape after the practice event (long story), the car worked really well all weekend long. I was sitting in 1st at the end of Day 1 and miatamoto was in 3rd. Unfortunately, I coned my first run on Day 2, and ran a little too conservatively on the other two runs, and slipped down to second place, .190 seconds behind eventual winner Jerry Irvine in a BMW E30 M3. Miatamoto held on to 3rd place, so we took two of the 4 trophy spots in the car. Not too bad, although we would have preferred a 1-2 finish.
All in all it was an awesome event. Can't wait to add some power and pull some weight out of the car (as it sits, it is still basically a Stock class car with coilovers, a bigger front bar, wheels, and tires) and try again!

Ha! No ASTs for me. Those stickers were strictly for the contingency.
We ran the Tour on the Endura Techs, which were absolutely stellar all weekend. We started Saturday morning with our baseline dry aspalt setup, and never touched the car all weekend long except to check tire pressures. The car was extremely well balanced and absolutely drama free, as evidenced by the fact that I hit one cone all weekend long. Look at some of the other cone counts from the event, and keep in mind that I'm usually a cone killer.
I'm not going to tell you the Endura Techs are better than ASTs, but they're definitely a viable off-the-shelf option in my mind. FWIW, Miatamoto is selling his MX-5 right now, which is equipped with exactly the same shocks and front bar as my RX-8. If you ask him reall ynice he might be willing to part out the suspension.

I like this photo. Notice the course worker in the background holding the cone. )
