Thanks dude. I have a little research going on. I have to fix her cheap just so I can cash for clunker her. Which breaks my heart but I won't get anything for her if I try to trade her in current condition. This ones a sad day.

PM paul at Mazmart. They can set you up with a good trans. for a good price. Also there are a bunch of good rx8 guys in vegas that can probably help you with swapping it yourself. It's doable with a friend and hand tools if your friend has done it before.

Thanks KRPM, I already have an offer in on that transmission. I just don't want to pay that much for one with that many miles as have seen a few here before for less expensive with less miles. We'll see what they say.

Thanks ShaunV. I'll PM Paul now. I am not too worried about the installation as I am finding the part. If I can grab one that I can afford then I should be good to get the car back on the road.

Just replaced the clutch for $1500 and don't have the scratch for a new tranmission unless I can find one for cheap. Since I own her outright, and with the issues I have had with her this last year (ethanol, starter, clutch, transmission, yes all passed warranty) it might make sense to trade her for bluebook plus $4500. If I don't fix her I am going to almost nothing for her.

Ouch. That's a ton for replacing the clutch. Sorry to hear that.

If you are interested in keeping the car after the trans. is in there are a few things additional to check and possibly replace but other than that it should be solid for you.

1)Ignition coils. These go about every 40-50K. They're $30 each online you need 4 and it's about 1 hour to install them yourself.
2)While you're in there you should replace plugs and wires. The plugs may last 100K but they tend to get fouled up before they wear out.
3)Cat. Converter can melt. This should be covered under emissions warranty. You can tell because the car will have a hard time revving up and feel like it's running out of breath at high RPM. Doesn't happen to everyone but it's common.
4)Engine recall MSP16. This is to check the compression of the motor. Early RX8 motors were wearing out prematurely due to not enough oil being injected. They have extended the engine core warranty to 8yr/100K miles so you should be covered. The dealer can perform this check and let you know if your engine is in good shape or not. If not they'll replace it for free under warranty.

If you take care of or check out those things you should be good to go and not have other issues.

Already sent a PM top Mazmart SMRX, and they're our of inventory, thanks though. I appreciate people chiming in trying to help.

Thanks for all the input ShaunV. I have the new plugs in already but I'll think about the coils if I decide to keep her.

As for the engine, I am dealing with a terrible dealership that we have been back and fourth about with the compression. It's a long story but ultimately they wouldn't do the compression test because the service bulletin didn't call for it so instead they reflashed my car. I could pay for the compression test ($110) but I am to the point of not trusting their results. I'm in a serious pickle here because now I am not even sure I ever needed the new clutch. Oh BTW, there's no other dealership here in LV.

It's not exactly a compression test but they plug in a machine and get a good/bad from it. They should be performing that check. Not just a reflash. You can find the recall document on www.finishlineperformance.com

If they are not following the instructions you can call Mazda North America and tell them the situation and the dealer you're working with. They should weigh in and tell the dealer to do the job right.

Thansk Shaun, if I end up keeping her I will investigate the engine. I have to take one issue at a time right now.

You will not get what you are thinking (KBB + $4500) the C.A.R.S. program pays only the $4500 as the total tradein amount. You would get more just selling it outright...

^^ Either way I need to fix the car for cheap. I was however told the CFC was on top of trade in value but could have been misinformed.

I would contact G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY... he always has quality used parts...

Yeah I heard on a local Talk Radio show talking to people who had done a CFC trade in and $4500 is the max for the tradein under that program. It is designed for older gas guzzlers who current KBB value is below $4500...

Hell talk to a car dealer and see if they will give you at least current KBB value for trade in as is without repairing it... then it becomes some else's problem...
