RX-8 6-speed manual trans, freshly rebuilt by Mazda certified technician

Up for sale is a 6 speed manual trans out of a RX-8. Had a slight grind going into 2nd, and the customer paid to have new trans put in. So, the trans was rebuilt including a new second gear, shift collar, and synchros. Also replaced the bearings throughout the transmission. If I can't find someone to buy it I'll be building a rotary dune buggy this summer and I'll use it for that. Throw me some offers, thanks! BTW I'm located in the Detroit area of Michigan and local pick up is more than welcome.

Welcome to the forums. FS section rules states that anything for sale must have a price by seller.

Oh I'm sorry, I guess I'd like to get somewhere around $1000 for it, but I honestly have no idea what its worth, so I'm sorry if that price is way off. Thanks.

Bump!? Are we allowed to bump? Anyways, I need to move this thing. I pretty much gave up on my dune buggy idea...so I'd like to sell this trans. I have engines and transmissions laying all over my garage and I need to make room! Please contact me if interested.

I think $1000 is to much, even though its rebuilt its still used. It might go for a bit more than a regular used trans because of the rebuilt but i would say look around here for what they go for and price more because of the rebuilt.

$700 bucks will take it, but you have to figure out shipping. Also...if you want I can post pictures...I'll take some shots tonight maybe, it's buried under boxes of other parts right now.

Smart customer that bought I new one. My trans was "rebuilt" and the second day of getting it back the grinding was still there. The dealer refused to do anything about it.

I agree that 1k is way over priced. I'd say start at $700 OBO.

If I had the 700 I would . After I get all the parts for my rebuild I'll see how much I have. I might take a trip out east to break the engine in and visit the family. if you still got it we can work out a deal.

I already tried eBay once, got bids from some idiot in Russia and never even met my reserve. It was a waste of $7 posting it there.

Also you might want to engage in some other post to build up your count. We like a fourm member not just a sales person you know.

If this is still for sale, do you have any kind of documentation for the rebuild?

Yes it is still for sale. I don't think I have any documents showing the rebuild, but I am the one who rebuilt it...and I can prove/show documents that I am a Mazda master certified mechanic (and ASE certified as well). I could probably pull the repair order showing that I put a new unit in the customers car. I've rebuilt at least 10-15 of these RX-8 transmissions and never had any issues with them. This customer was just super picky about his vehicle and obviously had pretty deep pockets to be able to afford a new unit. Let me know if you're interested.

My rx8 is currently in the shop and I'm waiting to hear if the dealer is going to fix it under warranty or not. If not I may be interested, if not bump for a good deal.

This trans is still for sale! I'm listening to all offers. Like I said before, $700 is what I'd like to get for it. I think we're moving now too, and I honestly need to clean out my basement. So, if you're looking for a spare or need one to replace your current unit, send me a PM and we can work something out, thanks!

Mileage on transmission? Even though it is a rebuild the gears other than second are original so mileage would help. Is the issue with 2nd completely gone now or was this tranny never reinstalled to check?

If I remember correctly there was about 42,000 on the unit when I rebuilt it. Also, I did test the unit. There was another RX8 that came in probably a month or so later that needed a rebuild, and while I was waiting for parts I decided to test the trans I rebuilt, and it worked flawless. Another thing that I just remembered is that the customer came in and requested that we drain and fill his trans with royal purple synthetic fluid. I can't remember the mileage when I did that but this trans spent probably half of it's life with synthetic fluid in it. Any other questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer them, thanks!

Royal Purple is bad for 8 transmissions. Synthetic is fine, especially Redline MT90. But Royal Purple has been reported here as causing issues for manual 8 trannies. I am assuming it is drained at the moment but I am a little concerned with the new of Royal Purple.

I have another transmission I am looking into. If that doesn't pan out I will check back with you. Since you just rebuilt it I am sure everything is fine. If you get a good offer then by all means take it. Good luck with your sale.

this guy is in Sacramento, but you will have to pull and ship it plus parts aren't cheap, great price for labor and he likely will do 100x better job than a dealer or trans shop, wish I had known about him when I lived in Reno, NV plus I just hauled three broken spares from there to DFW earlier this year
