Just a VERY newbtastic question. I'm not the most knowledgeable in exhausts. Is the only point of a midpipe to delete the cat?

Dear god, please don't hate me for a partial threadjack :P

A midpipe gets rid of the cat which impedes flow and weighs a few pounds. Some of the midpipes are 3" piping instead of 2.5" also.
