Wow, how did you preserve shine detail when going to black?

well actually, i made this when i was a noob to photoshop. I later found out there is a function where i can outline the car and it paints the whole thing black lol. I painted the whole thing black with the brush (which took me at least an hour), and if i recall correctly i added some white w/ blur and dodge effects to make the shine; and you cant forget the lighting effects!

I was bored so I started on this. I jacked the photo from ere of a stock BB rx8.

I'm still learning all the photoshop stuff and just got my CS3 so I get to learn new things!

My C/f needs some work. I had it flawless at 1 point, then closed it by mistake...

Very thick CF pattern. Totally unnatural. Thin it out just a bit for a realistic effect.

Car driving fast in a parking spot with nobody in the driver seat. That's funny.

My attempt.

yeah, go under filters, and use motion blur for the backround and radial blur for the wheels, make sure to only do 1 wheel at a time because then it will mix the two wheels and ull get a smudged rim.

So do you use the Magic Wand to select the car and then inverse selection and then blur?? Or do you use 2 sep. pics...one bkg and one car pic...??

Thanks for the fast lesson...I tried it but still not to sure...

na the magic wand tool never works right for me, go to the lasso tool and right click it to get the polygonal lasso tool, im sure uve used it before. you just click where u want it to go and it makes verticies where u click with a line in between...explained it best i could. but yeah jsut zoom in and slowly go around the edge of the car or w/e ur trying to get around, then just filter, motion/radial blur. The magic wand tool always gets too little or too much for me.

May want to photoshop in some tinted windows, unless you are portraying rolling that thing down a hill. There's no driver.

(also just looked at it again and found out what bothered me about the images. You need to try and take a pic without reflecting your background/foreground, the car SHOULD be in perfect focus but if the background is blurry, so should it's reflection be)

A polarizing filter on the camera can help with reflection control.

For Easy Selections

i use the Quick Mask tool with a soft brush rather than the lasso or anything other. You basically paint in your selection ( appears in red over your image), and when you toggle back to normal mode, your red parts turn into a selection mask.

Por ejemple if you have never used it, its this little button... hyah:

I've found the soft edges of a basic round rush tool help you avoid the jaggy selections you get with, say, a magic wand, and help ease the transition between your selected and unselected elements.

also, spend like $200 for one of these bad boys. makes selecting/painting about 100000000000000x easier:

this is a Wacom Intuos3. completely indispensible. The other photochoppers on here will agree, im sure. You dont need the $400 model. You dont even need a big one. I used a 6x11 that actually felt more natural to me than the bulky 12x17 Intuos2, or even the 9x12 Intuos3. They have a less expensive model called the Graphire, also

I know...these were the only pics I had that I could try this with and I took myself out the driver seat...

Just wanted to see if I could do the motion blur. Now I know how...and I did notice the reflections...maybe the smug tool can fix that...

heh yeah im not too great at realistic photoshopings...ur motion blur even looks better than mine...1 thing i didnt like too much is that u also blurred the tire. i usually think u only need to do the rim unless the flat side of the tire is facing the camera. other than that, awesome job

Anytime. I'm all self taught as well. I'm so old, the internet was not even around when I was in college. Lucky kids these days.

My favorite is the reflection of you and 2 people standing there to take the picture. In a way that can only be for a parked car photo. Also for future, blur the car showing through your window on the first pic.
