Vinyl wrap the whole car? Crazy.
|
They put vinyl over the silver instead of doing a white paint job?
|
Yep, click on the link. Crazy.
|
have you never seen this before or something?
|
I haven't damn, do this to my car I need a paintjob bad
|
my friend matte black vinyl'd his whole 350Z. he offered to do my 8 for 2k. Don't have the cash, but vinyl is legit
|
this is absolutely RETARDED!
2k to wrap your car? what a waste of money... I can understand a vinyl layover on the roof or certain small parts but THE WHOLE DAMN CAR? :banghead: washing the car would suck and you're f00ked if someone scratches the vinyl up. |
2k was half off too hahaha.
he got his done for free though, grr |
The workmanship is definitely impressive from the pics... I'd like to take a first-hand look but I'm also curious about the reasoning... granted it's cheaper and less labor-intensive than a paintjob, but how long would it last?
EDIT ~ Scratch my post, didn't see the replies... fuck that |
Vinyl in person is pretty amazing. I'm not sure how long it would last. But you could also peel it off whenever you wanted, thats a plus too.
|
i wanna do my roof but i cant seem to find anyone near me who does it
|
I have never seen it before and I don't really think it's feasible but a shop did it so it definitly markets their ability. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

looks like they did a hell of a crazy ass job!
|
heres my friends Z:
Before: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7397906_n.jpg (he's on the right) After: with some decals, and the left certain parts silver http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._6230407_n.jpg and now! silver and vinyl : http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7651827_n.jpg |
i know an owner of this body shop who owns a gtr did the same thing.
|
here it is.

First time I've seen this.
Impressive work. |
I've honestly considered having my RX8 covered in matte black vinyl. It would certainly be easier than a paint job.
The main aspect is you can always go back to the previous color. Not that I would want to but it's an option. |
This place is one of, if not the best place to get car wrapped. I think they quoted me 3,500 for my car in matte black. Its really a good deal if you do it right when you get your car so that way years down the road when you go to sell you peel it right off and have a pristine paint job underneath. They do alot of high end cars for this reason.

wow ive only seen the top of the roof vinyled thats pretty crazy, i just wouldnt do it
|
i might actually go to dallas just to get my roof wrapped :)
|
I've done vinyl work and can tell you that doing the entire car perfectly takes a lot of time and skill. You can almost get an idea from the photos. So glad they decided to take of the fake carbon fiber vinyl from the hood, mirrors, and strakes. Nasty!
Nice to see a RX-8 representing a shop though. They have good taste in the car. |
my question is why white??? If you're gonna have a free vinyll job done why not take advantage of it and get something that is different. Just another example or someone with money but no personality of creativity... If I were to walk up to that car and the owner would say "ohh yeah its a vinyl wrap" I would say, "soo? couldnt tell and dont care its white..."
|
I guess the answer would be, why not? To each their own. ;)
I do like what they did with the front oil cooler area. Though not sure how it looks close up. http://www.mmpowergarage.com/images/...Pro%20(61).JPG |
I like it, but one scratch and your fucked
|
Dont like how they left the front emblem silver on the inside but other than that its a pretty insane job...but honestly for 3500 I could find a respectable paint shop to paint my car or do it myself 3 or 4 times lol
|
i think this is awesome, but i agree that - although the white looks very clean - if you're going to do this, make it something cool like matte black or at least a color that mazda doesn't offer!! i guess he really wanted white!
but also, i don't have a huge probably with the cost...but durability is the issue. if it can withstand highway nicks on the front and door dings, then hey it's probably worth it, but otherwise it might be too much trouble to baby it to try to prevent the vinyl from scratching or peeling. |
what about the inside of the trunk---under the hood, door jams and all that? Is it a different color?. i Like the vinal roof and maybe the hood/trunk but it will never replace a good paint job.
I too like what they did with the cooler area---that is sweet. OD |
^never even thought of that. They may have just because the rest of the car is done so well but I would imagine that would be very difficult (not sure you can even do under the hood because of heat issues
|
I don't get it, why is this news? People have been doing this for a long time.
|
wow thats crazy. id just rather get a paint job.
|
yeah why white? and why gloss white? do something cool.. like matte white, or metallic orange :D
i wrapped the roof on my 8 myself.. it wasn't hard, but i can't imagine wrapping the whole car. there are just way too many curves |
i can tell you im pretty sure they did all the door jams. now, did they do the inside of the fender, that you can see when you open the door? probably not. did they do the inside of the engine bay? again.. probably not. (it would melt, im sure.)
and i cant believe so many of you have not seen this before. getting a vinyl wrap of your car is almost always cheaper. if you have patience you can do it yourself. i vinyl wrapped the front of my car and it took a lot of patience but it looked good and a year later i had 0 paint chips. until the bodyshop decided to try and take it off? i dont know what that was all about.... happened when they installed my bodykit. they should have just left it alone. anyway... its cheaper than paint. its reversible. it doesnt chip from stones. if one area gets fucked up. no big deal, you can redo that area. its a lot tougher than paint. and maybe in 5 years, its life is over. so guess what? bam! you get to redo your car in a new sexy style. or go back to the original paint. http://www.themotorreport.com.au/651...lack-or-white/ http://www.themotorreport.com.au/wp-...w-vinyl_02.jpg http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=636475 http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...header_gtr.jpg http://www.houstonrx7club.com/events...s/dsc_7564.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3247/...81fce031_b.jpg and you can vinyl wrap the car in any crazy graphics you want. thats the beauty of vinyl. its simply printed. you can get crazy custom graphics that would cost tens of thousands of dollars if painted. and you can get a whole lot more detailed with printed graphics. http://germancarscene.com/wp-content...n-29-10-06.JPG http://www.blog.powersportswraps.com...000-camo-7.jpg http://i241.photobucket.com/albums/f...tage-wraps.jpg |
There is also a GTR in Denton that is matte black wrapped.
|
My dad and I own a vinyl shop so I have definitely thought of doing this. The matte black looks WAY sick. Never would have thought it would either unless it was a SUV or something like that.
Agree'd, metallic orange would be GNARLY. I saw a lot of longevity questions that didn't get answered. The vinyl will last 5-10 years depending on the weather, and of course the quality of the installation. |

Here is a photo of a Ferrari Cup race car
The shop told me $8-10K for the wrap job |
Hmmm, problem would be finding a place to do it properly.
|
jeeeeeeez 8-10k?? that's ridiculous
|
one scratch might not be that big of a deal...its a bunch of different pieces. so its as easy as replacing just the piece that scratched.
im interested to see what that car looks like close up. for bubbles/wrinkles/ or bad lines. my bf works with vinyl all day...hes done a couple of wraps. he did the mustang rtr graphics and the wrapped the interior of the rtr-c in all carbon fiber. pretty awesome go to the myspace.. speedesign custom graphics. some pretty neat stuff he has done. mostly for advertisement or race cars. |

^that's silly, and I find it a bit retarded. I guess he didn't like that, and couldn't think of anything else, so he drove it into a lake. https://i241.photobucket.com/albums/...tage-wraps.jpg ^ The Ferrari(?) looks cool. (Black with green) I could see that. And I certainly could see doing it to protect paint. |
The flat black 8 looks great.
|
it doesn't look bad i bet michael jackson would of like the transformation :)

i like what they did with the side vents on the white 8... would be cooler if it was paint... :/
|
They are going to rob a bank then peel it off in a back alley ;)

|
I always thought people are crazy for ruining their OEM paint by painting it matte black... Now I understand that they are just vinyl. Man this is crazy makes me want to do something like this

I always thought it was not real.... |
