Thanks Silver, I enjoyed that. Dont get to hear it from a spectator position...ever. Like that pop at the end.

I was happy with the results, but think there is more to be had, and think plug wires will be done before Road Atlanta next month.

What about some heat sheilds? The stock log has them, why not on headers?

With a header glowing red hot you would think that there is fear of somethnign melting but Marietta8 didn't seem at all concerned so I doubt there is much reason to worry. As an aside, at the Petit LeMans last year the P2 Mazda's exhaust was so hot, the tip was glowing red.

Yea, I tried to get a pic of that but never succeeded. This is a bad attempt.

I would imagine maybe some type of thermo guard would work, like those of us with turbo have around that area. I'm not sure how hot GReddy turbo gets compared to the N/A stock header, but then again the manifold on the GReddy is cast iron.

Nice vid,,
I use to take my RX-4 down the freeway and the headers would look like that,
and half of the exhaust system!
Like a flame thrower.
Often wondered about headers on an RX-8 and the heat they produced.
Thought you would need some kind of shielding due to close tolerences.
Hate to melt the plastic around that area.

I would just like to say 2 things...
1- HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AMAZING TO SEE!!!
2 - 203 whp is actually very impressive for an NA RX-8. Did he ever have a baseline done before modding? Seems like about an increase in 15-25 whp. NICE!!

for Marietta 8, he actually lost a little power. It was well discussed over in the OBX header thread. It does have a pretty cool sound to it, and it required a lot of machine work to make it work properly.

We need him to chime in here, I think he had a baseline before he did anything to the car, and it was high IIRC. For a list of his mods:

I wonder if they'll get that hot when the car is moving. I'm thinking some air passing over them will cool them down a bit.

that would probably require a LOT of air. The header got so hot, and so bright, it was lighitng up the whole area around it. While it looks bright on that video, the video does not do justice to how it looked in person. We were all surprised, as you can hear by all of us yammering on about it.

I sound like a hick in that video, kinda scary, since I am not from here originally.

Just spoke to Charlie, he's going to look over his sig and make any changes/additions to his mods. I'll then put it up on my site too.

Everytime I click on it it says buffering in Windows Media Player and then the percentage jumps all around and only stays around 10-14%. Ahhh, this is frusterating!
