Video of Auto RX8 Vs. Manual RX8
So I was cruising around with my friend today in his Auto RX8. We were looking for cars for me since I had traded in my Auto RX8. We came upon a Manual RX8 on about the 3rd car lot we went to. So figured since we havent really seen any videos of the difference in performance, we would make one.
So here it is. 2004 Auto RX8 with GReddy Sp2 Vs. 2004 Manual RX8 Stock
First Race
Second Race
First race I took it up to 95mph from starting out at about 45mph. Second race was 40mph to about 75-80mph.
Results came out to what we had expected.
We would have made a video from a dead stop, but the Manager of the Car Lot was riding with me and he told me if I wanted to test it out I had to do it from a roll so I wouldnt waste the tires.

Stuck in a love triangle
The first video wasn't so good because the manual started out way ahead of the automatic, so it doesn't us show too much, but the second one was nice.
If you REALLY want to put the automatic RX-8 to shame and show everyone the huge difference between these two cars, you've got to do a video of the two from a dead stop, with a properly launched manual. Hell, even without an abusive clutch launch the manual would make quick work of the automatic, but against any other car you would feather the clutch to 5000 - 8000 RPM, so why hold any punches?
On the bright side...hopefully the manual RX-8 won't pull (as much) on a 2006 automatic RX-8, but only time will tell.

Seeing how much faster the Manual is than the Auto, my friend in the video is no longer going to Turbo the Auto and just trade up to a Manual.

LOL I didnt even consider the auto ... I was looking for used 8s at a dealership here in Tampa, and the salesman says "Yeah, we got a automatic silver RX-8 over there" ...
"Okay, thanks" and I walked away

I've driven both and there certainly doesn't feel like there is that much of a difference once you get rolling. After you hit 3rd in the AT it's a different story but up until 60 or so I would say they are fairly close unless you abuse the clutch in the MT from a stop. I don't think anyone claims that the AT is faster. The torque comment is just stupid and will go away with the 2006 AT 6port anyway.
Too bad i've spent way too much money on my 2004 AT because sometimes I get the itch for the MT i'll admit.

I hope this shuts up all the manual owners who say there's not much difference in acceleration between the two.
Especially people that say the top ends are similar.

The only race that the AT would have a chance in hell at is something like 0-2 MPH.
