completely uneducated opinon.
GTP sunfire azteks = old pontiac models, that got GM in the problem they have.
G6,g8 solstice = the new models that everyone is giving great reviews.
how can you bash a new roadster that costs 20k. No its not a performance beast, but not everyones looking for a car like that.

here is a friends GTO that had his engine go out at 35,000 miles on a GTO, which is something that falls under your new elite "new models" category.
pontiac was ***, is ***, and will ALWAYS be ***.

Highly unusual for the V8 in that car to up and die without some help, those things are usually bullet proof but I guess it happens. Sounds like you have your reasons for holding a grudge against Pontiac is justified but just for kicks take note that in the last J.D. Power and Assoc reliability/dependability study done Pontiac is well above many including your Mazda. I never liked Pontiac (and I would walk before I drove a Grand Am) but I can appreciate a couple of their newer designs (or should I say Holden's designs).

and if i start running into "lemons" with my mazda's I may reconsider purchasing them too. I can understand mass production lines for cars having a lemon out of 1000s produced. But having so many CLOSE friends and family have problems with numerous models and years, I dont have trust in their product. according to that chart I should trade the 8 in for a LaSabre :P

I wouldn't pass up a car I desire for it's placement on a well know reliability study chart either but I tire of the constant knocking of certain manufacturer's reliability based on designs of decades ago or one's personal experiences (example: Renisis reliability). Sure the build quality of some of the one's I've been in are **** IMO and most of Pontiac's designs/styling could be done better IMO (G8 excluded) but they aren't complete ***. I would still probably buy many German and/or Japanese cars before I bought a Pontiac no matter how unreliable the former would be as I simple like the designs of these cars much better in most cases. Just something to chew on.
