So far no oil leaked that I can see. When we opened the stock air box, the filter had oil in it just as others had reported. I notice that ther is a hose connected from the oil filler spout to the intake. This was also on the stock box. I can only guess that somehow it pulls enough pressure to suck a little oil out of the filler tube (maybe that foamy stuff a lof of us saw on our dipsticks). There wasn't a whole lot but, there was oil settled in at the bottom of the filter box. If it backs into the K&N, that filter is oiled anyway and would possibly not notice it until it became saturated and started dripping into the stock air box's base. I guess at that point, I wouuold have to recondition the filter.

Alhough it might sound like a stupid question, I'd like to know more about your K&N filter. Any difference in the 8's performance? Noice must be different too, right? I had a K&N filter in my alfa, in high revs the engine screamed like hell... what a sound it made! :D

And how do you manage to keep everything (covers, engine, even the filter) under the hood so clean? GREAT JOB!

So far, no noticeable diffrence in mileage, I got an extra 1.5 mpg last tank but at the same time, I had the L flash about 3 weeks ago though I hadn't checked since then until the last tank.

Performance? Not a whole lot. It may make an extra horse or two, that's too little to tell.

Voice? HELL YA! :D Under normal acceleration (What the hell's that? :D) there is little difference because it isn't trying to draw more air in. As soon as I lay pedal, it roars like a lion, gets throaty sounding. It's a good sound for those **** holes who poke along in front of you, you know where you give it a bit of throttle sorta like saying come on Pops, get out of my way, I'm in a hurry unlike you, jerk!

Clean? I avoid puddles like the plague. :D Truthfully, I don't know, I rarely ever really wash it, I sometimes wipe it clean with cleaning towles and have used a conditioner on the cover and parts. I had to repaint the main cover since when I did it, I had a heck of a time, at first, keeping tape on it so I tried this liquid masking stuff, it didn't work as well as I liked and I had a few spots of paint left when cleaning it off. So I had to remask the red and paint the black with a paint made for bumper renewal, it looked good and ended up matching the other covers exactly. I was very pleased with it. I then remasked the black and repainted the red, so there are several coats of paint on the red section.

If I were going to do another performance change in the near future, it would be the addition of a catback system such as the Borla. I think the two of them together would sound really sweet.

Right now I am adding on a MazdaSpeed grounding kit and am having a hell of a time doing it since I lost the instructions and they were just a photo copy of the originals to begin with and those weren't very clear. The search I did on here wasn't really very productive with any pics of how it attached to the battery terminal, I had to improvise and remove the original battery cable end and attach it to the grounding ring. I only have two cables running out so far since it got too dark and I got too tired to deal with it anymore this evening.

I dunno bout that, I actually like them as they are. Still, I have to do a photo shop to see what they would look like in VR. I may have to do a poll with a before and after shot. :D First, though, I got to get a decent sunny shot and since the sun is out today...you know what I will be working on tonight. :D

Yeah, I have that diagram too but the one I got has more sires than that and I could swear it had me hooking up one to the alternator, engine block and starter in addition to the ECU ground, fenders and throttle body or something if memory serves me. It's one from ebay with a round connector to hook all the wire ends to.

Even if I just use the connections in the diagram you posted, I would still be better than none. I guess I'll have to make a Do it Yourself thread with a few more pics and information than what I have seen on here so anyone else can find the information easier.

Thanks Mikeb, I like it too. I am still toying with the painting of the eyelids. Yesterday late, I went out and took a couple of photos then did a PS job on them. I am still not convinced to paint them cause I like the contrast black and red.

Here are the original photos and the PS ones. The first is the original:

I dunno, I sort of like the CF cause I think it looks a little meaner in contrast to the Velocity Red matching eyelids. What does everyone think? (Opening a can of worms here :D)

Sounds like a challenge. Hopefully soon, I will get my front air dam finished and installed so it will be a closer match on a front end shot.
