State of nevada drunk driving program
Hey guys, i am fully aware of how people feel about driving in such a way that would put people around the driver in danger. And in the state of nevada (las vegas) we have quite the problem with drinking and driving.
this is a cool program that we have that i thought id explain to u guys then give a video on it.
in las vegas we have a progam at all the local highschools called "every 15 minutes". What they do is they pick 1 day a year for every highschool where every 15 minutes of the day they have a person in a grim reaper costume that walks around and picks a well known person out of the classroom simulating that they have died due to a drunken driver. They choose every 15 minutes because it is a statistic that every 15 minutes a teenager is killed by a drunk driver.
then near the end of the day the police and fire department simulate a car crash by actually crashing 2 junkers together and putting realistic makeup on the kids that were taken out of class. they place these kids in the simulated accident. then they bring out the students at the school to watch what the aftermath of a drunken car crash looks like. then the police department and fire department simulate the accident as if it ACTUALLY happened.
in this simulated accident, they do the whole deal. jaws of life, hellicopter air lift off to the hospital. then the familes come to the hospital to see their "dead" child.
this is no joke people. the kids that were taken out of class get a call to their parents to explain that this is a program and that their son did not ACTUALLY die.then they carry on to tell their parents that they have died (simulated). but to show the student and families how serious this is. they book the student in a hotel room where they have no contact with anyone for 3 days. basically the child vanishes from the face of the earth for 3 days.
my mom works for the news paper so this was how the video was made. she took all the pictures
REMEMBER THIS IS SIMULATED, THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT ACTUALLY INJURED/DEAD
----summary----
The local police/fire departments simulate a drunk driver car accident where they use actual kids to simulate the car crash. the kids are checked in a hotel room as iff they actually died for 3 days.

You sure about this part and is exactly as written?
"The kids that were taken out of class get a call to their parents from the police department saying that they have died. then they explain that it is a program and they did not ACTUALLY die. but to show the student and families how serious this is. they book the student in a hotel room where they have no contact with anyone for 3 days. basically the child vanishes from the face of the earth for 3 days".
I think I would smell a huge lawsuit here very quickly.

looking back at the text you highlighted. i did mix up the order. first they explain its a program then carry on to say that their son has died. thank u for pointing that out, ill fix it. but yes they do book the student in a hotel room for 3 days with no communcation (telephone, internet, cellphone)

its for the effect. even tho they told you its fake. if u were told your son/daughter died, then u went down to the hospital to see your child in bloody makeup lieing motionless, it would still be very disturbing. personally i think its a very good program, extreme but it definitely works imo

They did that at my highschool in texas... for quite obvious reasons I've never liked drinking and driving, but honestly something about it seemed like it didnt work that well. Most people didnt seem to take it that seriously. The size of my school didnt help either I suppose. Most people couldnt even see the simulation. It's a good program with a good idea, but getting students to take it seriously might not work sometimes. I'm sure it worked for some though so all-in-all it might be worth it.

I zoom therefore I am.
another example of money that could be better spent somewhere else.
kids who don't drink and drive do so because they have a strong moral background and support system in place. Kids who will drink and drive are NOT going to be dissuaded by some stunt that makes politicians feel better about themselves.

Regardless of whether or not everyone agrees with this, it is a good thing to have. I remember they did some goofy thing at my school with googles and whatnot, but I thought nothing of it. This would have bothered me more.
Personally, I have always thought the whole "Lets tell you a story" deal to be boring and never cared to listen, because I don't drink and drive.
A girl in my speech class did one of these numbers, but the only difference was that SHE was the driver who was buzzed and SHE was the one who got into an accident and hurting her passengers and getting arrested. THAT was affective.
