See her naked!

Just some car **** pics of my car in the paint shop. The shop took these for me, probably so I wouldn't be by everyday to check on my baby

Going with the OEM velocity red. I figured it would disappoint many much to my amusement.

I can see in the 5th and 6th picture they are working real hard. My boss would never let that fly. I can just hear it now... "Stop sitting around! Get the shop cleaned up!"

They don't get long to sit around, the are always super busy. They have a good long rep. in my area and have been here in Vero for 20 years. They guy doing the paint work has painted for them for the last 10 years. I went with them because they warranty their work for life plus the work they have done on other cars I've owned was awesome. It ain't no Maaco job that's for sure. Can't wait to see it when she's done.

If you are getting a full respray why not make it unique keep it red but add a little wow factor to it.

And it wasn't that I didn't take care of it either. I washed and waxed her every week but last summer the clear coat started going. I have no record to prove it but I'm sure the car had been repainted some before I got it and they didn't do a good job. I found some over spray on the side bulbs the first time I took the bumper off.

I had thought about doing something different with it but when I hit a asphalt alligator (full semi tire on hwy I couldn't escape) it caused some damage and the bumper got repainted by the guys doing it now. I just love the color the way it is. They do use a different clear coat and I know it's much $ but the quality comes out better. There is only one other VR RX8 in town and it looks new but it doesn't look as nice as my bumper did.

Wheels and coil overs are WAY out of the budget right now lol. No suspension mods until I can better control the stock setup on the track. I will be repainting the wheels and calipers sometime but that I can do myself. I'll also be getting some Mazda VR mudguards to help protect the bottom from rocks and such on my dirt road. Only other thing I'm going to have done is new tent for the windows, going as dark as legally possible for FL. Thought about getting a two tone tent but it just seems ghetto.

mmm...i don't get it. So you washed/waxed the car 'every week' and suddenly one day that happened? You never noticed the paint was fading so significantly?

However...if your theory that the car had been sprayed before is true, then it makes more sense that the previous shop just did a crappy paint job.

Perhaps it warrants more details but to be honest I doubted people would believe the rest of the details. About a year ago I posted a thread about a car cover destroying a paint job. I deleted it long ago as it wasn't a useful thread for anything but I still have pics. I was in the process of redoing my cooling system among other things last summer. If you know anything about FL summer weather, it could be sunny 1 minute, pouring rain the next. It could be pouring rain in your front yard, sunny in the back and your back yard never sees the rain. Point being, FL weather is unpredictable and can change very fast with little notice.

Well I was outside working and next thing I know it starts pouring rain. I had the front bumper off, tools outside etc. so in a hurry I threw a car cover over my car to cover the front pumper. Didn't get to work on it rest of the day. Next day it was pouring all morning then the sun came out to a nice blistering 90+ degrees and dried everything out. When I came back outside and pulled my car cover the car looked like this.

I tried cleaning and scrubbing the car but the white remained. It was in the paint, well the clear coat anyways. I was pissed and depressed I thought my paint was ruined. This is where I don't think people are going to believe me but whatever, my family was there so I have my personal witnesses that assured me that I am not crazy. After about a week or so, and I took pictures because I couldn't believe it a lot of the white started vanishing and the color came back and the car looked like this.

From that day the clear coat had starting peeling off randomly in various spots of the car, mostly on the top and truck but a little in the curves of the hood. Guys on cflrx8club plus people at the auto cross I frequent have all seen it.

That's the full story. I had planned on originally getting the car repainted before but **** happens in life and you find that you get some money saved up but things happen, medical bills, expenses you hadn't counted on etc. so it has taken me a year to get to the point to afford a full repaint. The insurance wouldn't pay for it to be repainted, the bumper got repainted do to the accident I mention above which I also took pics. (I take pictures of my car like it's a child growing up lol)

No idea what brand it was, just some universal car cover my brother in law used for his firebird. He didn't use it anymore and gave it to me to use to cover the car everyday when I was done working on it.

Got some new pics from the shop, they have the base coat done. Just needs the metallic coat and the clear and she will be just about done.

Minus the original lights and such, she'll look like she just rolled off the trailer at the dealer.

Around 6k, that was the estimate but it could be more or less. It was what their software pulled up for labor, paint, new badges, etc. It is also an expensive paint. Plus I'm having them wet sand and clean up the head lights for me and still waiting on a price for tint.

Because we haven't seen it (until now) and no one has reported it.

There was a link in that post that didn't show up for me.

Finally got her back today! She looks sexy, the pictures I took doesn't do her justice. Everything in the day just reflects right off hence you can actually see the clouds and me on the car in the pictures. Didn't get any tinting done, might do that later. They would have just sent it somewhere else to do the tint then up charge me so they just recommend me to the place they would send it. I think I cam a little when they pulled it out front for me to look over
