I see a lot of RX8 in Hawaii. This seems paradoxial, because HI seems to be very inconvenient for RX8 ownership.

Freeway is 40-50 mph, and left lane doesn't move any faster (there are no fast lanes). How can you redline 2nd gear?

Rains frequently, and most cars driving out there are dirty/muddy.

How do you guys cope with HI? Are there any positives?

i was thinkin the same myself. I just arrived in kawai (spelling?) for vacation and i havnt seen an 8 all day. I also agree that it is not a car friendly island. The red volcanic dirt sure gets ur car dirty in a hurry, and the roads are definitely not meant for low cars...dono this place seems more suited for suvs/trucks. Also...is there a fairy u can take to have ur car travel from island to island depending where a meet is?

No Ferry yet. But one is on the way.

I actually see more RX-8s than 350z. I do redline it daily on the freeway on-ramp and am fortunate to commute when traffic isn't so bad.

Positives? How about beautiful weather 90% of the time, exotic scenery, gorgeous beaches, and twisty back roads just made for the RX-8!

If you know where to drive, one can certainly exceed 100 mph. But you won't keep your license for very long if done on an on-going basis. Unlike LabDad, I see far more 350Zs than I do RX-8s. But I have seen those IRXhawaii guys on one occasion cruising around. Unfortunately, I was driving one of my "other" cars at the time and couldn't join in the fun.

True, true.

All the RX8 I see have no spoiler or sunroof, and I see a lot driving around where there is an Enterprise rent-a-car. My suspicion is that Enterprise in HI has auto RX8 for rental, which would explain the # of rx8 I see.

I dunno if they rent them but most of my driving is around the airport area and at Pearl Harbor where I work. Lots of military folks seem to drive RX-8s. I know of 4 in the area I park daily and only 2 350s in that same area.

Like RX-Hachi says there are some good roads if you know where to look .

one of our forum members is on kuai. i think his name was whitehot or something like that. his is nice.

the roads on oahu are better than kuai.

i heard all the black rx8 owners on maui are mahus. im not testifying to that... i just seen the vids.

that Hawai SuperFerry is total badass material.

I'd like to skipper that ship.

I know of a turbo-phantom blue running around out there.
