The whole bumper is carbon, but they use a black gel-coat and only expose the carbon around the mouth and fog lights.
Correction... bumper is fiberglass with a poorly laid out carbon portion. The carbon is very distorted and the weave does not flow well where it's visible.
I'm having the bumper remolded, and made out of proper carbon fiber with properly indexed carbon. In fact, I'm going to be using the carbon zylon weave like my roof panel. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll get you in touch with the guy making the mold. If there's someone that wants one (like ready to pay for it), he'll make an S1 version of the bumper too... Fair warning, don't expect it to be cheap.
do you have any estimate price range for the remolded s2 version? I'm interested if the price is right.
It will be about the same price as the other bumper costs to buy and ship ($3,000), but made of actual carbon fiber instead of fiberglass matting. You can also get whatever kind of weave you want for the whole bumper, or just the accent parts. For example, we're doing the accent pieces in carbon zylon for mine.
Stiffer, lighter, and stronger material. He's also going to improve a few issues I found with mounting the Leg version like attaching it to the bottom of the oil cooler to keep the bottom from flopping around, and improving how the splitter attaches to the bumper itself.
Leg wasn't careful when adding the carbon inlay, so it's not indexed well. What I mean by this is the material is stretched and twisted all over the place so the weave pattern is crooked.
Just bit the bullet on the full body kit from Leg Sport with the vision front bumper, fender set, and rear bumper with carbon diffuser. My car already has the side skirts, a r magic hood, and Mazdaspeed wing so will be excited to see how it all comes together...
Got the kit installed for my Titanium Gray S1 and I must say it looks absolutely killer! My car now has the full aero kit from Leg Motor Sport (both bumpers and front / rear fenders) to go along with their side skirts I had previously. I got the DRL package, front carbon canards, and rear carbon diffuser strakes to tie everything together. Ordered the parts from Footwork Autosport (bulk of the aero) and Rotary Love (side skirts and eyelids) and both were great to deal with. The full aero took about 6 months to show up at my body shop and it was another month or so for the install (body guy got it done in a week, bless his heart).
I also have a vented carbon hood from R Magic, OEM Mazdaspeed wing with aftermarket risers, and backed out headlights and Odula eyelids to clean up the front end. Also used Tacoma OEM rubber trim to line the overfenders for a more "OEM" finish. I'm super happy with how it turned out, the car is now soo aggressive and exotic looking. It turned the clock forward so much that it looks right in place alongside all the new Mazdas today. It's like if Mazda made a 2022 RX-8 "RS".
Need to trim the edge off of the rear overfenders as that's fouling against the rear tires over big bumps, but otherwise driveability has been great so far. Car definitely feels more stable at speed. Excited to get her PPFed and sorted so I can do more cars and coffees, backroad runs and track days.
Front 3/4, super aggressive and modern
All the vents from the rear 3/4 view
Side profile is great too (featuring a clean FD I bumped into)

Wowzers! Sounds like your body shop's turnaround time was incredible. Did you get a full respray or just the new body pieces?
I will say that your rear end is a little busy for my tastes (tokyo drift / street-show style to me (imo)) but still looks great if that's what you were going for. I think a proper GT wing (paired with a splitter) as well as some f1 style mirrors would be the perfect compliment to your 8.

Front and side shots look great. Congrats!
He ended up basically repainting the entire front end as well (hood and doors) to get the paint matched properly. Also helped me paint the foam crash support and tidy up the undertray elements. Guy was no BS and great to work with.
I have a set of ganadors waiting to be installed. A big GT wing and an extended splitter could be a good look down the line, but for now I like the "GT3-ness" of the current setup. The rear styling pairs well with the really aggressive hood IMO.
Definitely super pleased by how it all turned out!
Already mentioned it on IG, but looks nice and fresh. Totally agree that is looks like a 2022 Rx8. Well done, nice to see something different and clean!
Liked it on reddit. I'm certain photos don't do it justice.
Very clean quality body work.
I'm with Federighi on the wing. That R-Magic fd style with the carbon inserts will compliment the package.
Happy miles on it!
not really into the Civic Si star wars look, but wishing you the best the first time it bumps into a curb or something else
that’s the problem with most of these kits
.
I was so pissed when I cracked my Leg Motorsports splitter. The only reason they made me a replacement was because of the flood from a tsunami. They were desperate for cash. They said never again though.
So just a note peterpangea... If you need a replacement splitter, they'll make you buy the whole bumper. If you had the S2 version that I have, Marsh Composites molded mine so I could get replacements in the future.
