think he rammed into the rear of a bus (and the bus turned onto its side i think)

The roof is probably off because the paramedics cut it off. If they suspect spinal trauma, they will cut the roof off to get you into a brace before removing you.

He didn't say the driver was dead. Given that the car was right hand drive, I can see where the driver would survive but a passenger might be dead...
