RX-8 Auto - not that slow on track! (150MB IN CAR Video)
Hi all,
Went on a track day yesterday at Wakefield (outside of Sydney - Oz), ran a best of a 1.17.99. Not bad for 192hp! A number of manuals on the previous track day were only in the 1.18s.
149MB Video here (6 laps) - Right Click as Save Target As:
THIS CAR IS SO AWESOME TO DRIVE!!!
Brakes were a little faded at the end of the day, absolutely no hassles with anything else on the car. I ran the car with 'DSC OFF' only, worked a treat.
I always like to run a little pre-mix in the tank for track days (1:200) 2 stroke oil - keep a close eye on engine oil level - didn't use too much.
Still can't get over how good it is to drive, the video probably looks a little boring - but there was PLENTY of sideways action.
Out of 35 or so cars I was 15th quickest on the day, only .71 secs. behind an SP RX-7! Really happy with it considering it is a completely standard auto!

Video is 150MB - modem users will have fun!!
Just right click and Save Target As on the pic. itself. I have used some new compression software to get the quality a little better. If your PC has DVD playback software it should work ok, but should still work ok with Mplayer, Real Play, MPlayer2.exe etc. - let me know if you can't view it after downloading.

Yep - FC RX-7, mid. mount motor, transaxle etc. big $ car. Very fast!!!
No, just lap times. On the back straight I was hitting the limiter in 2nd gear on a good lap. Probably hitting around 140-150km/h on the main straight (I think!). Virtually every other car there on the day would have been faster in a straight line, but the RX-8 makes up for it under braking and cornering.

Couple of people have said they have had problems playing these videos. Anyone else have problems here?
These are almost DVD quality, if you have a DVD player they should work ok. If not - you will probably need a codec or some free software (anyone got any links?).
Anyways, I'll have another video to post up in a number of hours time.

G-spot (program that identifies codecs) says its:
"(S) --> MPEG-2 Demultiplexer --> CyberLink Video/SP Decoder --> Overlay Mixer2 --> (R)"
not sure what that means though.

Videos worked fine for me. I'll download that one too. Thanks a lot mate.
Edit: What's up with that greenish rx7? You almost took her on a turn. Is 8 better in curves than the 7?

Hi Haris,
RX-8 handles and stops incredibly well, it is underpowered of course as you can see in the videos on the short straights the FD RX-7 moves away quite well - a lot of it comes down to the driver also (not that I'm that great! but I have done quite a few track days).

Stuck in a love triangle
Finallysomeone posted some proof forme. If youwatch a video clip of a stock 6spd Rx8 listen tohow the engine sounds and then compareit to these video clipsof the automatic youll notice the automatic is in fact louder

Original Turbo 'd Auto !!
That was cool ! I have a renewed hope in auto-xing my 8.
As for Jerky 8 said about the loudness of the A/T vs. the M/T I agree. the Auto is louder.
