I plan on getting anther one, but I think I am gonna get a cheap DD first. My commute is a 100miles a day so I put a lot of miles on my 8. bought it in Dec '08 with 48k and totalled it in Aug '09 with 71k. I think it will be better to have a beater and let my next 8 sit more. I took my scoop and my catback. Other than that, it is going to be pretty noticable if I take too much more

^My original plan was to buy my 8 and move closer to work, but it never happened. So now I am thinking get a DD for 2k or so, then save up for a few months and get another 8. Even tho I love driving the 8, I hate seeing all the rock chips build up as time goes by from me driving it to work. The catback was an AP.

Damn Rory when did this happen? This really sucks. Too bad you cant part it out. I would so take your radio and nav . But I do agree on the beater idea, hell a lot of us do it that live far away from work. I probably put 500 miles on my 8 a month.

^Yea, makes sense. I want my 8 to be my toy. For example, if I am moding it, I don't want my life to revolve around finishing the mod before I need to drive it again.

My 8 is my toy too . My eclipse does all the miliage racking and bitch work for the commute. 115 miles a day and seeing 1k miles added to your car in about 2 weeks worth of driving yea its something I'm not putting my 8 through. Esp I dont want to be changing the oil every 6 weeks.

WArG!

I envy you. You have all the cool toys to play with at work... AND you have access to a wind tunnel!? Bah. I'm looking at just doing simulations with CFD... build the part in Alibre... and export into Symscape for the CFD stuff. Poor boy solution... mind you that's waaaaaaaaaaaay off. Modelling a accurate representation of the 8 or 7 is gonna be a biotch... but.. at least in theory I could test the parts.

yeah thats the problem with CFD, Although it gives you a 3D rep of whats going on its not the whole picture,,,
We have FlowWorks at work I might mock it up in Solidworks and run it through but I would run into the same problem you will, I do not have an accurate solid model of an 8 I know someone who does but its a full blown GT race car and really would not be relavant,,,

yeah.. kinda annoying. I guess I could go hunting for 3d models on the net (I've found some), but there's no way in nowing how accurate they are. Some things you can get away with just CFD like rear wings.. they don't really have much effect on the rest of the car.. and if I recall correctly.. even if the air is a bit disturbed from dead air it shouldn't detract from the downforce that much. It's the stuff that you place on the front that change the entire characteristics of the flow around the car that you really have to worry about.

Hahah... see if you can wheel your car into that room with the scanner at your work

I dunno... will most likely bust out the standard cheat method for modelling... take pics from the same distance / elevation from the front, sides, back and top (this is the hard one), then just plaster that into the background of the cad program... as long as you have the scale down, you're basically tracing at that point so it's pretty hard to pooch... but it would still take some time. No idea what the hell I'd do for the undertray though... most likely just make the assumption that it's flat...

bleh... so much that I want to do... never enough time. Damn 9-5 job.
