I can think of several reasons:
-the more electonics/gadgets/toys the happier i am
-It ups the resale
-It's great for spur of the moment decisions in unfamiliar areas (food/ATM/gas)
-I'm never lost, even when I am
-It's a great convo starter whenever I start the car with someone new in it and the nav hood opens up.
-It makes it easier to add more gadgets (xbox/reverse camera/carPC)

The main reason for navigation being useful isn't the ability to display a map. It's because it can display YOUR POSITION on that map. You never have to wonder if you missed the exit, or figure out where you are on the map since it tells you without any guessing. Gone are the days of missing an exit only to find out 50 miles down the road.
Here's my navi, nothing special though, it's OEM.

Good location for the Garmin add-on. You just helped me make up my mind. Thx. Which model? c530? Looks like a windshield suction mount.
