Nice and high, between mirror and roof.
Mounted to flexible plastic to eliminate suction cups. Slid under roof bolt for maplite box.

Circuit City or Best Buy. Valentine 1 at www.valentineone.com only or on ebay.

how do you hardwire it? I have a passport, and want to upgrade possibly to the V1, how do you exactly hardwire it so that you can't see the cord?

It comes with an adapter so you can wire it in, you just need to find a switched wire to wire it in, under the wheel next to the pedals. My main unit is clipped on the sunroof and the wire is just long enough to have it there but if you want it someplace else you'll just need some regular phone cord. The wire is just hidden inside the headliner and it goes above the window and down past the side of the windshield. The pieces can just be pulled open/snapped on and off, takes about 30-45 mins.

All of you guys have them mounted high.. does it help "see" more cops that way? I thought I read somewhere that this is total myth?

As you clear a grade it might help in that respect. However, I mount mine high to make sure it has a good view of the rear window to catch cops coming up from behind.

Actually I was wondering about that. With the V1's that are mounted that high, are they able to detect from the rear very well any more? I normally mount mine about even with the review mirror specifically so I can also get good range from behind me. I thought when I was initially looking where to mount mine I found that anything much higher than that and it would line up with the top of the car, and not the glass anymore.

As for laser, at least in our state the cops have to tag you three times to get the measurement. Something about since it's instant they need more than a split second reading. Usually you get tagged with that first one and you can easily get down to legal speed for the second and third shots.

I wish I could do that. I'm tall enough that I had to turn the mirror upside-down to adjust it properly (thanks for whoever recommended that here in RX8Club, and yes I know its double articulated). So with the the mirror up higher, there is not room above the mirror.

I thought about creating a tray coming off the bottom of the mirror that I could lay the V1 on. Currently I'm using the visor bracket with the V1 on the passenger visor. I haven't ordered the Remote display yet (I want the modified one with different color LEDs for each band), but I need one bad since I can't see the display well on that side. Crowds me on my visor. Don't like using the passenger visor either since it renders it useless, but I have to claim "driver's option" when it comes between theirs or mine.

Expensive will still be cheaper than me screwing up the mirror or detector trying to fabricate one myself. Do you have a link?

No WAY!

I would use that it has to have an 8 logo, not a Z logo.

That's cause it's nap time.

I'm planning on getting one, but it's going to have to be discrete cause they're technically illegal on post. Not that I speed on post...

Whenever I get on base i just unclip it from the windshield and set it in a cup holder. Sometimes I leave it up and they don't even say anything.
