Pics of MS body kit, JIC coilovers
As promised, here are a couple pics of the car with MS body kit and JIC coilovers installed. The rear underbody still hasn't been installed (although the Racing Beat exhaust has) but I figured mikeb was getting antsy enough.
The rear is slightly lower than the front, but I want to raise both another half inch. With stock springs and MS side skirts I have to put a 2x4 block on the jack pad in order to lift the car. If I didn't then the jack would bend the bottom of the side skirt. At its current height I have to drive onto another set of 2x4's or I can't fit the jack and block under the car. I think another half inch height should take care of that yet still look good.
Currently the side skirts sit roughly 4" above the ground. At that height you have to take driveway entrances slowly to prevent scraping the front. We took the car autocrossing at Candlestick (a very bumpy lot) yesterday but didn't have any issues either bottoming out the car or scraping the undercarriage.
We've already received a couple compliments on ride height looks and if it weren't for the jack issue we'd keep it around this height. After a couple hundred miles we'll get it corner weighted.

If nothing else it does make the car more unique. A lot of people in SCCA recognize us as "the guys who drive the pikachu car".

i think the pikachu's kinda cool actually. call me childish but that pikachu graphic is ALOT cleaner than some of the ricey BS that some people slap on there cars. his wife has better taste than alot of so-called car 'enthusiasts.'
plus how could you turn down whomping on someone's lap time with a pokemon decal on your hood?

Another member suggested I post on rx8pictures.com once everything was installed. Sorry, no sister. When they made her they broke the mold. PS. Wanna know her favorite color? :D

@PUR NG:
I saw your beautiful 8 a few months ago at Costco in Santa Cruz. Couldn't park my black nearby, so you prob'ly didn't notice me (black MT, all stock).
The pokemon sure is unique; there are at least 2 other yellow ones in Santa Cruz county, one automatic and one MT.

Sadly we sold the house in Santa Cruz and are moving to Hayward next month. I'll miss it; I lived there for 19 years.
The yellow automatic is our fault. My wife initially wanted an auto 'cause she hates sticks in stop/go traffic. Literally two days before it arrives she changes her mind and wants a stick for autocross. I really felt bad for Ray @ Marina Motors but fortunately he was able to sell it after a couple weeks.

I also bought my 8 @ Marina Motors. Oh so your the one who had the yellow 8. Yeah I remeber Ray bitching about that. J/K. Nice ride. We go fishing in Santa Cruz quite often. To bad I haven't seen it around. I would have loved to check it out with the MS kit installed. Any comment on how the ride has changed with the JIC coilovers installed?

Have an appointment monday for corner weighting. By then we'll have been two two autocrosses; I want to do another afterwards to compare before I offer any opinions.

Looks great... I haven't seen a yellow MS yet. With the snow we get around here I couldn't go that low unfortunately. And I love the Pikachu- I've got to show that to my daughters...

ManGaZeRo, yes that was us at last year's D1. Boy that yellow is really bright. I took a photo of the parking lot from the stands and you can totally see where our car is.
The problem we're running into is looks and performance vs. practicality. The MS body kit lowers ride clearance by an inch or so. The JIC coilovers come standard with 1.5" drop. That is too low.
The car as pictured has 3.5" clearance. I've raised it to 4.125" clearance and we're still having problems scraping the front. Most of the time it barely clears but I've scraped four or five times since putting it on.
Actually okay on most roads but if you have a lot of small irregularities it gets pretty bumpy. It's about as stiff as I'd tolerate for a daily driver but personal preferences vary.
We bought the MS body kit in Japan last december. At the time there were maybe three kits stateside total and it was only available in japan. [shrug]
The Pikachu is a custom vinyl graphic. We paid $175 but that will vary according to shop and location.

But that front end has GOT to come down, and maybe the back end up. Just my 2 cents.
