I know this is nothing new, or spectacular, but I did this picture for a class earlier this year. The purpose was to have a spot color picture (have just one color or put focus on one object by using color).
Warning to slow connections it's 1024*847 wallpaper size.

Sorry about the lack of pic. I browse, but there is no attach button.

Use the {img}http://url{/img} tag. Replace the fancy brackets with square ones though.

What if it's on my hard drive and not on the net?

on the post reply screen go all the way to the bottom where it says attch file and click the browse button.then browse to the file on your hard drive and click it . that will attach your photo as a link in your post. when you are taken back to your post click on the link. copy the url at the top of the page then close the link. now click the edit button. when you are back in the post reply screen click the image button and paste the previously copied url. then click the submit changes button at the bottom. that will put the pic in your post so everyone can see it without having to click on the link.
edit: of course all of this is moot if the file is too big!
