I know it's been done before, but here is my crack at it! (Couple hours of photoshop)

 

HAHAHAHAH nice one. i think they headlights should work as the eyes though.

yes i have not, but it'll look better in the headlights. lol or at least sharpen the mouth (grille) a lil like lesper said so it defines the points clearly.

 

i can never get over with the eyes not being the head light! eventhough the movie "cars" used the windshield as eyes, it still just looks like a windshield.

I'm with him ^^^^. Even while watching the movie, I kept wanting to see their headlights as eyes, it made the whole thing more difficult to watch. Oh well....good job with the photochoppin! looks good!

I wanted to do a 3D mouth like that, but I was too lazy to start 3dstudio.
Maybe i will do a good version sometime.

Couple hours means ~ 2 hours. All the shading was done by hand since I didn't render anything.

Looks like they just grab stuff from Cars promotional pictures and merge with the target picture. I drew mine from scratch, the only source was the original picture I took.
Maybe I should up the ante and render some custom mouths.

 

It has, but I think only in Lightning McQueen red.

 

Yup, that's what they do, they also adapt the layers so they blend with the original car. There are some posts explaining the thing with screenshots in the same thread, it's in spanish but you can guess what they do from the photoshop menus.
