Photo shop request (painted rear bumper)

could someone help me out, with photo shopand/or opinions.

i HATE cleaning the plastic part on the rx8, specifically the bumper. i was thinking, and not sure yet. having everything the car color(metro gray), having the exhaust shrouds black, and a glossy black rotary emblem?

and idk what to do with the mesh part yet

will be washing soon

or also, all black?

i'll probably cut out all the mesh, like take it out completely

picture of the rear:

it'll look cheesy if you paint it.

No, not true.

I've seen it in white and it looks really good.

But I'm only speaking for white... idk how gray would look.

The reason it is flat black, not painted, is for visual appearance in that the bumper would look huge with all of it painted the same color. For darker colored cars (black, grey) it's not much of an issue.

As for the mesh, just so you know there is part of the bumper support directly behind it and will show. There are pictures of it here somewhere.

+1 Don't paint it.
the black color add contrast to the rear. It will look huge if you paint it all. I've seen it done and it did nothing for me

if you want to paint it paint it glossy black dont match it with the car like everyone else said it will make the rear look huge ... as for the mesh thing if you take some paint and paint the lines silver it makes a big difference ... look at my profile for pics

Actually there is the heat shield for the muffler directly behind that fake mesh. It can be cut off I suppose.

Anthony, A.Mair did what you are wanting to do with his WB except he had the shrouds painted too and it looks pretty good actually. I am not sure if the heat shield was cut off or not though. You will have to do some searching or PM him I guess.

haha pimpin those flame pics!

Painting the bumper trim to match the car just does not look right unless you do plenty more to it.

I did it and id never go back..

It makes the car look lower at the back but it does depend what colour your car is black looks sweet on that white one. I actually want those ings shrouds aswell like the white, should look ok all blue.

Your paint colour is close anyway to the lower bumper colour..

I dunno what u did with your badges but if its still like that get some insulation tape and match the colour with some touch up paint better than some holes to look at mines hardly visable.

sick picture, i think i like the way that looks, not quite sure yet, but it looks good on your car.

i would either have no mesh, or black mesh, and also cut out in the venter triangle

exactly like this, but with black exhaust shrouds

would that melt over time? the paint i mean?

or someone could photoshop this winning blue, but with black exhaust shrouds!

if you're going to paint the bottom, you have to paint the entire bottom.

doing just the exhaust shrouds in black is going to look odd.

would look very weird having the shrouds black and the rest blue.

Here are some pics I took and posted in the TiG thread this should give you a somewhat better idea for the middle portion at least.

Oh right, the muffler heat shield. I knew it was some kind of metal. In any case it's all a bad idea to me.

thank you for the pictures!

yeah this is exactly what i was talking about, but nvm... i dont think i could pull it off lol

so i'm definitely cutting out the "mesh"

now my options are:

whole section painted black

whole section left as is

or like hellhammer's rx8.

all of this will be complemented with a new ms front bumper (replica) with the splitters in glossy black.

thanks all, what a great community we have.

If your doing the MS front anyways, you could always try doing the mesh without painting, if that fails, that has to be cut anyways for the MS rear.
