Painted calipers- black on black

After I waxed my black 8 and shined up the wheels, I started really noticing how nasty the calipers looked. I had some time this past weekend so I bought some VHT high-temp caliper paint and tackled the job. I tried sanding down the rough spots, but for the most part was only successful at getting them cleaned. Here are a few pics- nothing fancy... after having bright red calipers on my Miata I was going for something more subtle this time. I liked how the black calipers looked on my AutoArt 1:18 RX8, so I went with that.

The fronts:

i thought that red calipers would look great with a black 8 with the interior red. But those black sure stand out more than regulars. How do you pain calipers? I know you gotta take of the wheel but i was looking at mine the other day and there were like metal things stickin out and i didnt know if those could be painted or not

I painted my calipers red with silver RX-8 on them.
Those metal things sticking out (I called the heat sheilds in my thread) I painted black as well as the center of the rotor.

Will post pic if G8rboy doesn't care.

I painted everything black, with the exception of the rear bolts, bleeder screws, and rubber dust boots.

Please do post... would like to see that combo.

That looks great- painting the hub center black was a nice touch- really looks sharp against the silver.

I used some silver touch up that was a close match and painted over the few rust spots I had showing.

Thank you...I have gotten quite a few compliments from co-workers on the calipers. I have three Mustang owners wanting me to paint them on their rides....can you say "cash for mods!!!".

G8rBoy, you should paint the inside circle of the brake disc on the rear wheels black like you did on the front wheels. It will look good.
After seeing your pictures I've decided I'm gonna do my wheels too, especially that mine have got these horrible rust marks.

I didn't actually- it's just a shadow since the front rotors have different, more concave shape. I think i might though- it would look good...

No tint- just bad lighting in the garage. I've actually been shopping around and plan to get tinted next week... either 35% all the way around, or 20% in the back, and 35% on the front windows.

i am so glad someone posted pics, i have had the black paint sitting in my apt for since the day after i got the car (15 days ago). havent had the time on a weekend to do it yet. but i am probably going to be doing this real soon. i have a black 8 Pics here!!

i also have some hyper white bulbs for the fog lights, and clear sidemarkers were shipped today!! so i will be getting under the car soon.

i am also going to do the center of the rotors black, after seeing all the rust on all the ones at the dealer, i knew they would have to be painted.

great pics guys....makes me feel comfortable doing it now.

oh yeah...thats 5% limo tint......it is sooooo awesome!!!!
