painted calipers

okay taking suggestions for the color i paint my calipers

okay first i was like blue so it matches my car....then i was like what if the blue is not the same it will look crappy. so then im like all nice cars have red calipers cause they looks like Brembo brakes so would red calipers look good on the winning blue 8???....thanks for your help!!!

I was thinking Pink...

Lol Black or possibly yellow

girliegirl 02-27-2005 07:22 PM

umm black...yeah but then it wouldn't stand out that much...but i guess red would clash with the blue to much huh??

cas2themoe 02-27-2005 07:29 PM

Where are you getting your paint from?

girliegirl 02-27-2005 07:38 PM

not sure yet

tiggerlee 02-27-2005 07:42 PM

Do black calipers and do Polak's RX8 caliper stencils in blue. IMO

Autozone sells a can of caliper paint here for about $7.99. Duplicolor also makes a kit that sells for like $16. It is brush on.

Cobalt_RX 02-27-2005 08:14 PM

hey, I think yellow would set it off. I did my Green in yellow with the duplicolor kit and I got a lot of compliments on them. I would love to have the blue though. Just remember if you don't like the way they turn out you can just repaint them.

good point about repainting them. i have a blue and painted my calipers red... looked very good. yellow wound't be too bad either. the purpose of painting them is to draw attention to your nice calipers. black??? boring.

i agree thats why i wanted to paint them red...you have pictures of your blue 8 with red calipers??

Texas 8 02-27-2005 10:09 PM

another vote for black here... I thing black on blue would look sharp.

Rhawb 02-27-2005 10:13 PM

I'm surprised nobody has said to go with a gold/bronze color like the NSX has. I think it does a REALLY nice job setting off the blue.

Edit: Another pic.

Hou-TX-RX-8 02-27-2005 10:16 PM

Speaking of painting, I bought the duplicolor kit this weekend Red My 8 is Red. I was going to paint them but after looking at the task I decided to take my time and when I get a chance I am going to remove the caliper completly as I feel I will get better results this way. Are you guys that have painted your calipers removing them or painting them on the car?

Nat

girliegirl 02-27-2005 10:18 PM

damn that is a sweet nsx;) looks good....i still am leaning towards the red though;)

Lock & Load 02-27-2005 10:23 PM

Suprised no one has said Gunmetal grey or yellow . :D

cheers
michael

thanks all!!

the short and not too interesting story is that i had one of the originals and was offered the buyback from mazda. i took the offer and was able to buy the same car (with nav this time) for cheaper.

the reason i have not gotten around to painting these calipers is that my new wheels have lug nuts that have a loose fitting key. every time i loosen them with the crowbar, they get closer to stripping. if i get access to an airgun, i'll paint them and send you a pic. good luck.

Blue on blue seems to look nice, and go with polaks stencil black
or you could do blue on black calipers as someone stated earlier.

that white on blue look pretty nice.

off topic: those blue wheels are uhh... too much blue on a winning blue IMO. but i like the uniqueness.

and that guy look scary...

BlueFrenzy 02-28-2005 01:34 AM

I actually just painted my blue 8's caliper blue. I found some nice sapphire colored enamel paint with metalic flakes in it. I think you can't go wrong with blue on blue. Brothervoodoo beat me to the punch in posting the pics. I think the 1st one is WHealy's (whose great paint job made me decide on doing mine blue).

Red calipers will standout but doesn't look so bad. I think that there was a guy with a blue 8 that painted his calipers bronze. Nice as well.
