Thumbs up Observations From the Piston-Free Zone:The 2004 Mazda RX-8:The First Week to Infinity

All righty,
Here goes the neighborhood!

Last week I bought a 2004 Mazda RX-8 from my local dealer.

It's a 6-speed,Titanium Gray model with the following:

RSW-Rear wing
1SP-Sport Package (DSC,Xenons,etc.)
2AP-Apprnce. Pkg. (Fr.air dam,rear/side aeros)
2RP-Polished accents,F/R
(They forgot 'em initially,I just installed them today-)

And I just ordered:

Rotary Extreme's OEM-Japan Clear side-markers
(A bargain at $70 a pair,imo!) rotaryextreme.com
(Note:Recieved them and removed the internal reflector for better light distribution,
am also adding 'stealth' bulbs to side markers AND front and rear blinkers, giving the 8 more clean, white lines to go w the Ti gray-)

RX-8 factory Cover (Blk/gray)

Factory MP3 Player
(A shortcoming I'm willing to drop $350,total,to fix-)

Fr. Splash Guards
(To complete the 'aero' look,imo)

Mazda Bra (w/spoiler model)

My first tank I averaged 15 mpg mostly city, breaking it in.
Tank two was 17.7 mpg, with a bit more hwy driven.

Next will be the MazdaSpeed f/r braces, and I'm thinking on potential subwoofer configs for the car,as well.....then the 'eyelids' for the headlights, paint the f/r calipers, and add a center-console gauge-package and I'll be ready to re-do the seats in leather.....

Stay tuned,I'll keep my adventures updated in this thread,as there's to be some touring this summer, and posting pics here might just come in handy!

Thumbs up Zoom Zoom!

I just got back from picking up my new bra at the dealers (no install-rain today) .....and I made an appointment to have the mp3
module installed, along with the clear side-markers and fr. splash guards.....so I'll get some pics up early next week when it's all been done. Now,off to get the OEM K&N filter and replace it (that I'll do today)and I'll go test it out and post what,if any, differences I see.

My first RX was a 1980 RX-7 GS with a factory IMSA package,
I got it in 1985....
I wish I had a pic to post of that old girl....

OB,
I saw those pics of your car,it's absolutely stunning and the wax is killer....

Buying a new car is a blast, and a new RX,well....it's something I've been waiting for since '99.....so if some cynics can see past my initial enthusiasm (not likely to wane-)....they'll find that I'm relatively pragmatic and decided to log my experiences here in an effort to SHARE so we can all LEARN....which is what bulletin boards are all about.

That's all for now.

Right... lets have some calm... I've cleaned all the garbage out of this thread, so lets not start with it again, or either omicron, one of the other moderators or I WILL close the thread... Preacher, ignore him... he's not worth it.

The dealer had my car overnight.......

After the reflashes (L/M) and all my assorted 'mods, they
determined that my throwout bearing (w 500 miles) was bad
and are waiting for a spankin' new one as we speak.....
(How THAT happened is beyond me!).....along w a harness that's for another (unnamed) recall.....

Not a perfect car,but the dealership (Clair Mazda in Saco,Maine)
is going all-out to make it right.....so that's where we stand as of now,in the Piston-Free Zone.

More,later.
