In a muffler/exhaust shop in San Carlos - but honestly, you can get this done at any decent exhaust place.

Totally agreed L&L, I love aftermarket exhaust solutions, but alas, the Tamas tip mod is a bloody excellent mod for those that want to keep the stock exhaust.

Tamas....you mentioned that the stock tips stick out more on one side than the other, actually I believe that's normal, my HKS legamax right side tip sticks out more than the left. I'll have a look into this and get back.

by very noticeable to you mean according to your butt dyno?

For me, the left side did stick out more.
There's no reason why would this be normal - it's simply how much did they pay attention when welding the stock tips in place. The person doing mine might have had too much sake earlier during the day

Ok your correct dude, I looked into this and the stock RX8 tips should be equidistant. The HKS Legamax tips however will offset by design...

Wait until you get behind the car while your driving. you can look straight up into the small diameter exhaust tube. It looks cheap on the stock 8, and with bigger tips will even look silly er.

Luckily that's only from one angle. Other than that it's a much better view and mod.

Looks great! I am considering these two:

* 35126 - Round-Straight - Double Wall T-304 Stainless Steel Tip
* 35121 - Round-Angle Cut - Double Wall T-304 Stainless Steel Tip

Yes but I would have a hard time NOT feeling silly paying ~650 dollars for a sound.... keep in mind I already have my "sound" and a nice addition of a few horsies thanks to my RP SuperCAT... my sound is there, all I want is some bigger exhaust tips.

While the RB unit is niec and shiny, its 10lbs heavier. I'm not forking over that much cash for more weight, some shiny metal, and no real gains.

I just got my new tips put on. I went with the fatty 4" ones. Total cost including both tips and labor was $140. I've very please with how it turned out and couldn't justify spending $600 for a new exhaust with other things I still want to get, such as a subwoofer.

Surprisingly the shop I went to had never worked on an RX8 before.

The whole job took less than an hour. If you guys are in Orange County I highly recommend ACE MUFFLER in Westminster. There was an S2000 who just had some work done and said all of his buddies go there too.

Looks great! Not ricey or anything, very elegant and simple, and that makes it stand out, IMO.
