New RX-8 Spy Picture
I think the red color looks great. As far as i can tell, nuthing has been changed from the concept, but the interior doesnt look as spiffy as the yellow concept.

I was wondering how he could tell anything about the interior, too. Still, nice to see a new picture. Why couldn't the person taking the spy photo have snapped one or two others, though. And that red color *is* pretty awesome.

The coloured gauge hood has been given the ax (too many reflections on the windshield apparently), and in the newest (yellow) concept RX-8, there isn't much interior chrome. Basically all that is body coloured are seat inserts and the steering wheel, both of which can't be seen from that view.
By the way miata35, how the heck did you fit 19" rims on a Miata?

they're my babys
I dunno how, I had a friend do it for me he owns a body shop and he can really spice up a car. I know that one thing is for shore, low profile tires make the rims fit. I'll post some pictures of it one day on my website but since this is an rx-8 forum i wont put them here. As for the interior of the rx-8, i dont think the colored dash hood was appropriate anyway it had a cartoonish look to it. I still hope they will offer color combos though such as the black with red interior.

Rx8 pic
I think the 8 looks very nice from what I gathered from the photo, but I agree with one poster, why couldn't the person take more that one pick of the car? That was dissappointing. As far as colors, I think Mazda will offer the traditionals: red/black int., black/red, black/black, silver/black etc. I still think the best color offered by Mazda on it's sports car was Tornado silver/red int. that' what my brother's '87 GXL had. That was a color 2 DIE FOR! Anyway when I get my RX-8 I want the silver with red leather combo. I don't think that it will be too intense if Mazda breaks it up with some titanium accents.

Curious about the rain gutters
First thing I noticed were the inclusion of rain gutter/tracks. I do not recall any other pics with them. Also, the trunk looks as though there's a subtle spoiler. Dunno if it's production or part of the masking (I hope it's the later).
Red has and will still be my color of choice.

Those are probably rain gutters, but the may also double as mounting tracks for a roof rack. That would be very nice!
The spoiler looks like it came straight from a Miata body kit, and that's not a bad thing. That will easily be available as an option.
I hope this means we begin seeing more and more pics leading to an instrumented testing. I can't wait for that to happen.

wheels, 3rd brakelight
Do those wheels look a little different than the ones we've seen to date?
Does the high mount 3rd brakelight mean the elimination of the rotary shaped foglight down low?

The wheels do look like they have a different finish on them. From what I see, they look pretty good. They are kind of shiney without being chromed out.
I hope they don't loose the foglight, I thought that was neat. The rear spoiler probably isn't a permanant addition. It's a slightly different color and doesn't really flow with the body lines. The rain gutters look similar to the roof of a WRX, I think that's a pretty effective low drag way to do the rain gutters.
From the angle that that picture was taken, if the RX-8 didn't have the fender bulges, it would look a lot like the old 240SX coupe.

I see what you mean about the sunroof... I want a sunroof!!!!
Anyway, did anyone notice the truck unfront with what could easily be another RX-8 covered with a tarp?
Also there is a UK magazine stating that there will be a 350Bhp turbo model in a year, I'll try and fine the URL tomorrow.

Trunk
I guess this picture will finally lay to rest whether or not its a hatchback. That looks like a conventional trunk to me (look at the cut-lines near the back window).
Looks like they've kept the gorgeous detail in the rear brakelights too.
Whats the shiney bit next to the covered up Mazda emblem? Nameplate? If so, that will be coming off after purchase with a bit of dental floss and patience. I don't like that location (actually, I don't like nameplates period).
Why does it look like there is a spot for two licences plates in the rear? What is that cut-out in the body mask for? Does anyone else see the bluish line running down the middle?
That could be a sunroof (here's hoping), or it could be a sun glare. I can't be certain.
Ten points and three smilies to anyone else who comes across other spy shots! Mazda released pictures are ok, but they only show us what Mazda wants us to see. Candid shots like this add much more to the puzzle!

What's with the dark paint on the C pillar? I don't think I like that. Can't be certain that's a sunroof. It looks more like a reflection to me. I'm totally with you Grimace on the badge removal. When I was a kid the first thing I did with my bikes was to remove all the reflectors and stickers.

hottrodder, that "paint" is just more masking trying to hide the cars lines from spies. as far as the "nameplate" there seems to be one of whatever it is on both sides of the mazda emblem. and just in case you didn't see the post from rotary news.com there appears to be a keyhole next to the right tail light for opening the trunk.
give us more photos!!! :D
