my Yellow RX-8
Well, I've had my RX-8 for about two months and I obviously love it. Definitely more fun than my 2002 WRX was (still a great car though). The only mod I've done is the aux-in hack on my cd player in order to play my iPod through the stereo (thanks to OverLOAD, ectomort, and several others for the help). Anyway, I just got back from a car wash/detailing place where I had my baby cleaned up for 25 bucks in like 15 minutes. Turns out the stock wheels are a light aluminum color and not charcoal gray :o

why didn't you just buy the adapter you put on your ipd that broadcasts your ipod to a fm frequency.....only 30$ and a hell of a lot easier...just a thought

iTrip doesnt work at all in the car. I have a similar unit and it is BUNK!!! Im thinking about going to the FM Modulator route, or continue to wait to see what kind of reviews OVERLoad's custom aux import gets...im sure its going to be great...but I was too late for the first batch...

I had the Belkin TuneCast II FM transmitter which allows you to tune to any FM station without having to reprogram it with your computer. I tried it, but even on the best (ie: clear) stations it sounded like junk and the volume was very limited. Plus, sometimes even driving to work the station I was on would start to degrade, which would have required me to tune to a new one. Now my audio is crystal clear and I never have to worry about losing my FM signal to another broadcast station. Any FM transmitter can never sound as good as a direct connection. It took me under three hours to do the hack, and since I already had one of the 1/8" extension cords lying around the house, it cost me absolutely nothing.

Correct, I did the hack without the tape module. I used the instructions posted by ectomort in the "DIY: Tape Aux-In" thread.

Info needed to get to the head unit itself can be found in this post. It includes pictures and a scanned copy of the real install instructions:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-mp3-factory-head-unit-removal-install-7644/
It should go without saying that this mod is inherently dangerous. Opening up the head unit and soldering directly on the circuit board should only be attempted by people who have confidence in their abilities and/or money to replace the head unit if they mess it up. If you do get it to work, it's well worth the effort and risk. Also, assuming you have the tools necessary to do the work, the cost of the mod itself is less than $10 (only need the 1/8" extension).
Hope this helps,
Durahl

Yeah, I figured someone might notice the DoD stickers on my car. I'm an Ensign in the Navy. I'm in Charleston, SC for nuclear propulsion training.
