A little over a month i was invited by Alex W. to witness a tuning session of a turbocharged RX8 over at Synaptic 3 in Candia, New Hampshire.

Some of you may of heard of Alex W. if you are around the North Eastern side. He started out tuning Toyota Supras and after working with many different vehicles he got to tuning for Synaptic 3. He owns a Supra that used to be around 900whp, now it's closer to 600whp.

This RX8 over at Synaptic 3 has had a rough life. The whole turbo kit had to be re-worked by Synaptic 3 to fit correctly, along with a new ECU outside of the kits option.

He was now tuning with the Accessport. After a couple problems, and a very mild tuning session, the kit pumped out a whopping 271whp/205tq @8.8psi. A far cry from the companies estimate of 310 SAE.

only 271 at 8.8 psi? is it me or is that low?

 

It's very low, the kit sucks. Synaptic 3 did the best they could without swapping out turbo components to get this kit up and running safely with no problems.

 

Is this the SFR kit? Which member owns the car?

The first couple pictures have that FD. It's a sick FD. Fully built from the ground up. The guys at Synaptic 3 told me they have been building this car for over 10 years.

its not the sfr kit and its not any mazsport kit i've seen. its also not the esmeril. or the greddy.

and 270whp at @ 8.8 psi sounds pretty reasonable to me. doesnt the greddy do 250whp at 6psi? so it doesnt sound that outlandish. where was mysql at 293whp with the greddy? 11 psi?

 

The problem isn't the numbers, the numbers are pretty satisfactory. The problem lies in the incomplete kit, that the manufacturer spouts as a complete kit. Bolt on, with their tune, 310whp.

When synaptic 3 initially installed the kit, literally everything had to be re-worked. None of the piping fit, they had major clearance issues. After many thousands of dollars wasted fixing their mistakes, the customer finally ended up with a mostly stock turbo kit, pushing less power than it is "supposed" to.

I'll try and get the information of what exactly it is they were working with. I am pretty familiar with different manufacturers of turbo kits for the RX8, but this company i was not familiar with.

Needless to say, Synaptic 3, and myself, would of liked to see a Petit Supercharger in there instead!
