This was my second corral at Mid-Ohio and it was nice to see everyone again.
This year we (mazda group) were the last to get our turn on the track but it was nice because we got it to ourselves. It looked like they threw all the other corrals together at one time.
Anyway, I borrowed a buddy's GoPro Hero 2 because it has an external mic port (my series 1 GoPro Hero does not have one) and ran a microphone on the rear bumper-see attached pictures. I cannot take credit for this setup. I believe it was RX8club member "Rickeo" that came up with this idea. I saw his write up and video and I thought it all worked very well together.

The BMW driving experience and Acura drive teams were sliding through the turns during the pre-race, so that was close, nobody drifted their 8's though LOL. The only thing I saw drift during the race was the Ferrari into the infield near the end of the race.

 

I'm just bustin' *****, It looks like a great time. I just got excited when you throttled up to catch up then everyone slowed down But it is a Parade lap, I was just hoping you guys would say screw it and drive hard until they threw you off the track

 

Do you know when and where the next meet may be? I'm new to the RX8 and would like to go to a meet sometime

 

OP do you happen to know the brand and model number to the external microphone you're usinging in your video?

It looks like an Audio-Technica PRO24CM Stereo Microphone with Camera Mount?

 

This was a Mazda Corral at a race. The next one like this at Mid-Ohio, will be next year.
I suggest you check the NE Regional forums ( https://www.rx8club.com/ne-rx-8-forum-29/ ) and look for a local group close to you.

 

I'm guessing you didn't see that one of the Acura's went off from overshooting the braking down the long backstretch. Slid off the end, through the grass and sand and a decent bump into the tire wall. They needed to pull it out of the tires, and the driver could limp it around to behind the wall inside madness, where it was put up on a flatbed. Didn't see any passengers at any time, which was odd, but might have just missed them hopping out of the car behind the wall.

That's what the muscle car guys did. A few of them tried burnouts on the track and the pace car immediately dropped them to literally 5mph. Zero fun.

I was leading the street cars for those laps, pace car directly ahead, and while I was at the front waiting, the track official there was chatting with us, complaining in disgust at the muscle car guys "same group every year. We are splitting you from them partly because of size, but we also don't expect any issues from this group [Mazdas]"
