blue targa

miata35 08-15-2002 11:37 PM

the nicest rx-8 ever. I think it looks better with the c pillar swept back instead of having the window cut off at the suicide doors. What do you think of those mirror tints.

enjoy 08-16-2002 01:10 AM

You are skilled with photo shop. You do good work when you really mean to. The flaming painjob and if i may "Riced" look doesnt really appeal to my liking, im more conservative, to me low profile is everything;)

Thats just the way i am, i dont intend in anyway to critisize your work im just voicing my opinon, which BTW none of you have to agree with (making that clear because in some other threads on this forum it became into a brawl just making sure it wont happen again).

prowler5622 08-16-2002 01:31 PM

Nice work I would drive that all day if i had a car like that

nice job miata35, how about putting a racing wing on it:D :D :D

MPS/Mazdaspeed RX-8

With regards to the first few images to this thread... Make these changes, and then remember this thread, for later you may see something on the street that looks like it...

Open up the break/oil ducts (so the bottom of the openings are lower, and more defined)

Under the bottom of the center grill, add a rotor shape, extending down to, and into the front bottom air dam...

Attached is a sucky 5 minute dealy-o I did... minus the rotor and air dam thingie.

Mazda man 08-24-2002 01:06 PM

Thats one classy rx-8. Nice photoshop job:D

prowler5622 09-10-2002 09:14 AM

hey miata check this out

heres a RX-8 with some nice wheels, wing, and side pipes:D :D :D

danger 09-10-2002 01:51 PM

that lowered rx8 actually doesen't look too bad... in a real life situation i would ditch the side exhausts, change the rims, and the wing...

everything else though is pretty damn sweet.

prowler5622 09-15-2002 10:26 PM

hey can anyone give me a hint on how to find wings to put on the RX-8 plz ???

Umm... There aren't any yet since they don't sell the car yet. No market. ;)

Yes, again... this is hideous.

All these pictures that people make up for mods actually make the car slower. Body kit = weight. Bigger rims = Weight. big exhaust = weight.

So you can 'look really cool' with the body kits and such... and I'll just fly by you because you loaded your car with crap.

Now I gotta disagree with you there. It all depends on what you are doing with the car.

Spoilers and air dams make for better stability at high speeds, which is something I desire. And in fact, IMO the spoiler and air dam I have on my 1st gen RX-7 makes it look and perform better than it's unclad brethren at the measly cost of about 15-20lbs. Poly and fiberglass don't weight much.

Larger exhaust? If it's free flowing it's probably considerably lighter than the stock exhaust, and provides a healthy power increase on a rotary. Then again, being able to shove a watermelon in the tail pipe is not a high priority. Rule of thumb on previous rotary models is that anything wider than 3" is a waste.

Bigger rims are not necessarily heavier, and may provide a selection of wider, better gripping tires. Important for launching and handling. This is to a certain extent of course. 22" rims have no purpose on much of anything that isn't used for tractor pulls or car crushing. ;) Personally, I think the rim sizes that will be available with the RX-8 are fine.

That being said, throwing a big aluminum wing, "duce-duces" and a watermelon shooter exhaust tip on the car will do nothing for performance at all. :)

Well, if you take an airdam like on the 1st gen Rx7 that would act in a lifting fashion at high speeds, and replace it with a flatter face, then it certainly would make an improvement. But most aero-packages are all style, not performance, and some of them hurt more than help. So, just like STBs, where some are effective and others are affectations, it depends on the body kit as to whether it will make an improvement. And have you physically touched some of these kits? They'd bend under any aero-force, rendering them less effective than they would otherwise be.

For example, a couple of years ago, a magazine (I believe it was Car and Driver, but I'm not sure) took a new Mustang on a high speed oval track. They ran the same car with and without the rear spoiler. When run without the rear spoiler, the car was more stable AND ran a couple of more mph top end speed.

...Larger exhaust? If it's free flowing it's probably considerably lighter than the stock exhaust, and provides a healthy power increase on a rotary...
That depends on your definition of "exhaust" and "free flowing". Like you said, putting a coffee can exhaust on there won't amount to much (even if it's chromed and has read LEDs on it ;) ). The bigger the pipe, the more it weighs. Unlike a Civic or other econo car, I would think that the RX8 will come from the factory with an exhaust that was capable of handling the needs of the Renesis, short of forced induction. So, I would expect that adding a bigger pipe will do nothing but increase weight (unless the stock pipe is more kinked than necessary, such as on the Miata, but even then...). The muffler, on the other hand, might trade more performance for noise than us gearheads would want, so replacing that might help a little (and if you get the RIGHT muffler, weigh less).

Mazda said that they are working to get the right "Sports car" sound... so mabe it'll be OK on the noise front!
