my mazdaspeed rx-8

Hey guys I did these pictures using photoshop 6. I added a body kit, a spoiler, painted it white, and tinted the glass and headlights. Let me no what you think.

Toadman 07-29-2002 05:30 PM

Good job.. Very nice.! :D

KayakDaddy 07-29-2002 06:34 PM

Great Job!

Nice photoshop job and great looking car! :)

I especially like the side skirt treatment and the front air dam. The side skirts make the already high-waisted car look even more so. I guess it's the proportion of sheetmetal to glass.

The rear spoiler goes well on this one, though I would try to opt out of that one if I could. I'm decidedly anti-huge rear spoiler in almost all applications. I've never been really big on rear spoilers, but seeing all of the "shopping cart" Civic's, Cavalier's, etc. has turned me against them altogether. I like how Mazda integrated a rear spoiler with that small lip on the back of the trunk lid, eliminating the need for an additional one.

Toadman 07-29-2002 06:53 PM

Can you photo-chop in a two-post painted urethane one like the 99 J-spec RX-7?

miata35 07-29-2002 07:04 PM

Hey toadman, sorry im a little confused could you repeat what you just said and maybe add a picture of the car or something? Thanks

miata35 07-29-2002 07:31 PM

Heres a picture of the same body kit in red that appears to be in motion. I think this one turned out pretty cool.

Toadman 07-29-2002 08:37 PM

WOW! Talented for sure. Nice stance with those 18/19"s and drop job. Find another 4-door that looks that wicked. :)

I meant the rear wing in the previous post. Replace the Metal/CF one with a urethane 2-support(both ends) painted wing. Something classy and accentuates the lines, not ricey add-on antenna or "shopping cart". :)

miata35 07-29-2002 08:47 PM

ok i'll try to find a wing that would fit the description. I'll post a picture tomorow

Immi 07-29-2002 11:03 PM

Thats some glorious stuff man.

red_base 95 07-30-2002 08:25 AM

Not to nit pick, but I'm guessing the car in the pic was originally red. How do I know? You forgot to change the color of the guage cluster cowl on the dash. Small detail - everything else looks very, very good.

The tinted head lights really balance the front very well. That car would look great in black or gun metal as well.

miata35 07-30-2002 09:54 AM

Actually the car in all the pictures was origanolly yellow. In the first picture, I changed the colors of the car seperate from the rest of the image, then i changed the color of the dash because I didn't like the white/yellow combination. In the second picture, I changed the entire image to a different hue, so the dash changed with the rest of the car. Im still working on that 2-post wing ill get it up today.

miata35 07-30-2002 10:24 AM

Hey toadman I worked on the wing a little is this what you were looking for?

miata35 07-30-2002 10:27 AM

I know a lot of people are skeptical of an RX-8 cabrio, but i thought this one looked decent. Here ya go.

Strider 07-30-2002 10:51 AM

the convertible is alright IMO, but the kit looks very well done. the rear wing... i'll have to agree with KayakDaddy on that one. great photoshop skills... keep 'em rollin out-

n22lasing 07-30-2002 12:08 PM

miata35 I like the Original photoshop job much better. Unlike other people, I prefer the rear wing you have on that photo. I do not understand how that can be "ricey" [which I find offensive] considering that it is similar to the wings on cars in the American Le Mans Series. Anyway great job, keep them coming. Don't stop and make some new body kits.

KayakDaddy 07-31-2002 01:31 AM

I have a request...

Miata35, your photoshop skills seem topnotch, see if you have time to have a go at this. Anyone else who wants to try, please feel free.

I'd like to see an RX-8 in the deep dark shiney blue like BMW uses on their new M5's. Make it kind of metalic or metalflake if you can. To make it easier for you, I'll attach picture of an example I found after some quick surfing. This is the prettiest color I've seen and looks great in person (this picture doesn't do it justice). If Mazda offers something like this color, it will be in my driveway.

As far as the rear spoiler goes, I'd like to see one that attaches on both ends, but is about half the height of the other one and smoothly curved down to the body. If you can't find one like that, one of the better looking stock wings on the market right now is the one on the new Celica GT. Even though it doesn't attach on the ends, it turns downward cleanly.

Thanks in advance and good luck!:)

mach 07-31-2002 02:00 AM

How's this?

http://members.cox.net/mach/RX-8%20Blue.jpg

KayakDaddy 07-31-2002 02:19 AM

Wow, that was fast!

A 29 minute response time in the middle of the night, now that's service. :)

That deep blue looks great on the RX-8, I love it. I'll go with that if they release it. I can't get over how good it looks. BTW: you can still see a little yellow outline from the original color, but what can we expect from such a fast job.

Now, does anyone want to have a go at putting a body color wing on it similar to the Celica GT? Idealy, the wing would only connect at the ends, but that wing almost makes it look like it does. I'll attach a picture of the Celica's rear spoiler I just found after some quick surfing just to give an idea what it looks like.

i have a request

i would like to see a dark matalic green RX-8 with lime green flames and a nice wing something like the wing on the supra in fast and the furious

miata35 08-11-2002 12:23 PM

Ok, heres the green one with the lime flames on the front. I know, it's really quick and dirty, I was lazy so i didnt clean up the edges too well. I'm not crazy about the spoiler, but that what they look like on the supras in the fast and the furious. A added some lower rocker panels as well to make the car apear lower. Check it out:

Immi 08-11-2002 02:23 PM

That looks neat.

prowler5622 08-12-2002 10:37 AM

that look's sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!

prowler5622 08-12-2002 10:39 AM

i would greatly appreciate it, thanx

miata35 08-15-2002 11:25 PM

blue targa

miata35 08-15-2002 11:37 PM

the nicest rx-8 ever. I think it looks better with the c pillar swept back instead of having the window cut off at the suicide doors. What do you think of those mirror tints.

enjoy 08-16-2002 01:10 AM

You are skilled with photo shop. You do good work when you really mean to. The flaming painjob and if i may "Riced" look doesnt really appeal to my liking, im more conservative, to me low profile is everything;)

Thats just the way i am, i dont intend in anyway to critisize your work im just voicing my opinon, which BTW none of you have to agree with (making that clear because in some other threads on this forum it became into a brawl just making sure it wont happen again).

prowler5622 08-16-2002 01:31 PM

Nice work I would drive that all day if i had a car like that

nice job miata35, how about putting a racing wing on it:D :D :D

MPS/Mazdaspeed RX-8

With regards to the first few images to this thread... Make these changes, and then remember this thread, for later you may see something on the street that looks like it...

Open up the break/oil ducts (so the bottom of the openings are lower, and more defined)

Under the bottom of the center grill, add a rotor shape, extending down to, and into the front bottom air dam...

Attached is a sucky 5 minute dealy-o I did... minus the rotor and air dam thingie.

Mazda man 08-24-2002 01:06 PM

Thats one classy rx-8. Nice photoshop job:D

prowler5622 09-10-2002 09:14 AM

hey miata check this out

heres a RX-8 with some nice wheels, wing, and side pipes:D :D :D

danger 09-10-2002 01:51 PM

that lowered rx8 actually doesen't look too bad... in a real life situation i would ditch the side exhausts, change the rims, and the wing...

everything else though is pretty damn sweet.

prowler5622 09-15-2002 10:26 PM

hey can anyone give me a hint on how to find wings to put on the RX-8 plz ???

Yes, again... this is hideous.

All these pictures that people make up for mods actually make the car slower. Body kit = weight. Bigger rims = Weight. big exhaust = weight.

So you can 'look really cool' with the body kits and such... and I'll just fly by you because you loaded your car with crap.

Now I gotta disagree with you there. It all depends on what you are doing with the car.

Spoilers and air dams make for better stability at high speeds, which is something I desire. And in fact, IMO the spoiler and air dam I have on my 1st gen RX-7 makes it look and perform better than it's unclad brethren at the measly cost of about 15-20lbs. Poly and fiberglass don't weight much.

Larger exhaust? If it's free flowing it's probably considerably lighter than the stock exhaust, and provides a healthy power increase on a rotary. Then again, being able to shove a watermelon in the tail pipe is not a high priority. Rule of thumb on previous rotary models is that anything wider than 3" is a waste.

Bigger rims are not necessarily heavier, and may provide a selection of wider, better gripping tires. Important for launching and handling. This is to a certain extent of course. 22" rims have no purpose on much of anything that isn't used for tractor pulls or car crushing. ;) Personally, I think the rim sizes that will be available with the RX-8 are fine.

That being said, throwing a big aluminum wing, "duce-duces" and a watermelon shooter exhaust tip on the car will do nothing for performance at all. :)

Well, if you take an airdam like on the 1st gen Rx7 that would act in a lifting fashion at high speeds, and replace it with a flatter face, then it certainly would make an improvement. But most aero-packages are all style, not performance, and some of them hurt more than help. So, just like STBs, where some are effective and others are affectations, it depends on the body kit as to whether it will make an improvement. And have you physically touched some of these kits? They'd bend under any aero-force, rendering them less effective than they would otherwise be.

For example, a couple of years ago, a magazine (I believe it was Car and Driver, but I'm not sure) took a new Mustang on a high speed oval track. They ran the same car with and without the rear spoiler. When run without the rear spoiler, the car was more stable AND ran a couple of more mph top end speed.

...Larger exhaust? If it's free flowing it's probably considerably lighter than the stock exhaust, and provides a healthy power increase on a rotary...
That depends on your definition of "exhaust" and "free flowing". Like you said, putting a coffee can exhaust on there won't amount to much (even if it's chromed and has read LEDs on it ;) ). The bigger the pipe, the more it weighs. Unlike a Civic or other econo car, I would think that the RX8 will come from the factory with an exhaust that was capable of handling the needs of the Renesis, short of forced induction. So, I would expect that adding a bigger pipe will do nothing but increase weight (unless the stock pipe is more kinked than necessary, such as on the Miata, but even then...). The muffler, on the other hand, might trade more performance for noise than us gearheads would want, so replacing that might help a little (and if you get the RIGHT muffler, weigh less).

BlueAdept 09-17-2002 12:11 PM

Mazda said that they are working to get the right "Sports car" sound... so mabe it'll be OK on the noise front!
