My custom made rear rotary light
3 Attachment(s)
I saw pictures of RX8s with rear rotor light and I really liked it but I couldn't find one to work the way I wanted, so I decided to make my own. I made it in a way that it lights up with parking lights but also it lights up whenever I am braking. Also if it is on with parking lights and I brake it gets brighter. So I have use for it in daylight and night time.:wiggle:
EDIT: I uploaded some pictures of the light in daytime on post number 23.:wavey: Here are some pictures in night time. Parking lights ON: Attachment 252060 Parking lights and brake lights ON: Attachment 252061 Just brake lights ON: Attachment 252062 :ylsuper: |
Sweet!

Very nice. Total cost of making if you don't mind me asking?
|
Well it cost me more than I expected. I had to pay for my trial and errors of buying LEDs that wouldn't match perfectly. Also on some components like boards I realized buying multiple makes the price of each board cheaper so I bought like 50 boards. I still didn't add all my costs but I think I spent somewhere around $600 to $700 so far. I might try to build the rest of the boards and sell them in order to recover some of my costs but that means I need to buy more LEDs and wires and etc. Right now I do not know if it worth to spend more money on this project. Unless I know there might be other people wanting this.

having it act as a rear fog and "4th" brake light distinguish it from the competition enough so that I don't think you have worry about anyone calling you a "copycat".
great job! |
Lights look good. Let's see some pics of the housing during the day.

I said "sweet!" but Holy Cow! $600/700? That would leave a bitter taste....also thinking you could have taken matched LEDs from any LED brake lite at AutoZone for $20 and used a phenolic breadboard for $10 to mount them on, they're already set for 12v use. Just saying...
But now you definitely need to start selling these diamonds. |

But now you definitely need to start selling these diamonds. The price of 1 board was half the price of 50 boards so I said I will get 50, if I mess something up on first board I have extra. It took like 2 months and few paychecks so I did not realized I am spending that much until it finished. Now I am thinking f#@*, I could have bought a nice TV with that money. I need to build and sell the other 49 board.:o: |
looks good. these prototype things always ending up costing a grip when you look. but that's what it takes to do it right.
|
yeah, build some more. I need a 3rd brake light. word.
|

I would be down for one if the price is right. |
awesome job ... build projects are never cheap even though you might start of thinking they are
|
Thanks guys, I am going to get busy building the rest of them. I am getting good responses. But the only problem/question: Can I sell them here or should I become vendor first? I really hate to spend more on this project before getting paid:shocking::(

Contact Zoom44 and he'll work a deal out for you.....
