my Brilliant Black 05
i was out today enjoying the nice weather in the RX-8 and decided to take some pics and share since i don't really post pics of the 8 all that much. i bought the car in dec of 08 when i was christmas shopping for my wife. i was driving my black 88 TII and was sick of shoipping, so i drove to the mazda dealer down the road from the mall to oogle over the RX-8's. i ended up talking with the salesman about a then new 09 RX-8 when he offered to let me drive the one we were standing by. i dove it and explained to him that i liked the car but what i really wanted was an 04-05 in brilliant black with cloth, a 6spd, rear spoiler and under 40K miles. no sooner he said that he thinks that he has one "in the back" fitting that description. we get back from the drive and he brings it around and its an 05 in brilliant black with a 6spd, cloth, spoiler, and having only 29K miles! it still had the auction writing on the windshield. he said that it was just brought in that day and hadn't even been in the service dept. he explains that it was originally a lease turn in (my first thought was that it was probably beat on but luckily it was not). he told me the price was $12,999. i put a deposit on the car so i had first take at it and brought my wife back the next day to drive the car. she loved it and the rest is history. i felt that i had the best christmas gift that year so anyways, here are some recent pics of the now 36K miles RX-8:

thank you for the compliments! the car has been extremely reliable and its such an enjoyable vehicle to drive! brilliant black was not my first color choice (was my second and nordic green my first choice) but when i saw the car i had to have it. my only complaint is that because its black it shows scratches easialy.

my first car was a 1963 Ford Falcon (which i still have, lol)..my second was an 85 RX-7..since then which was 1999, i have always had more than one rotary powered vehicle in my posession. its gone from an addiction to an obsession, lol. i always wished i could go back in time and could've purchased a new RX-7. when the RX-8 came out i felt like i had my chance to do so.

Great story and a beautifully maintained BB RX-8!
Congrats on the car, I'm sure the past 18 months or so have just flown by and you can remember that conversation with the sales guy like it was yesterday.

i actually do remember it. i went to the bathroom in the middle of waiting for the loan approval and when i returned, he and my wife initially told me that i wasn't approved for the loan..i was at first heartbroken for a split second then decided to just accept the fact. the salesman then said that he was joking and i got approved at 6%. everything was finalized and then i took the car home..the first drive as the owner was on a downpour of snow in a 65mph zone.. the RX-8 performed flawlessly and i couldnt be happier with it and still am to this day. here's a pic of the car the night that i test drove it. still had the auction writing on the windshield:

Really cool, great setting! Love the contrast of the modern 8 vs. the old Falcon-it looks in great shape, too. I also see a blue 80's era RX-7 in the background, too. Restoration in process?

the Falcon was my first car. i got it form my grandfather when i was 16. its since been completely restored. it has a 170cid I6 and a 3spd manual trans. shifter is on the column. the ol' 3 on the tree the ocean blue metallic 7 in the backround i gave to a friend last year. we've welded on a new front clip and painted the engine bay the original color and added clearcoat. we installed an S5 N/A engine in teh car and he's custom making the wiring harness and replacing every component that you can think of. its good to see the car getting back on the road.

digital camera was dead yesterday and i couldn't take pics with it yesterday.. but i got one with the cell. a tire rotation was needed on the 8 so i rotated the tires and checked the underside of the car, inspected the suspension and checked the torque of the nuts and bolts on the chassis. here's the only pic i took:
